Chapter 11: The Love Letter of Qin Xi
Seven days have passed.
Qin Xi has vanished without a trace, as if she had evaporated from the world.
Her phone continues to repeat the same cold voice: "Sorry, the number you have dialed is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later..."
Smash!
Mu Jinhang's face darkened as he slammed his phone against the wall. He grabbed a bottle of strong vodka and drank it down frantically. Scattered around him were a dozen empty bottles, and the air was thick with the pungent smell of alcohol.
How he wished he could get drunk, so he wouldn’t spend day and night thinking about Qin Xi.
But his tolerance for alcohol was too high.
Mu Jinhang took another few swigs of the liquor, the burning sensation traveling from his throat down to his stomach, making even the left side of his heart ache painfully, as if someone were gripping it tightly, suffocating him.
That person was Qin Xi.
But she was gone.
“Qin Xi…” Mu Jinhang murmured in agony.
He even thought that if he could start over, he would be willing to forgive Qin Xi for her betrayal.
The secretary walked in and saw Mu Jinhang sitting on the floor, disheveled with unshaven stubble and bloodshot eyes. Gone was the noble elegance he once possessed; no one would believe that the heir of the Mu Family could become so disheveled and despondent over a woman.
The secretary sighed inwardly and respectfully said, "Mu Jinhang, this is the letter that Sister Qin Xi asked me to deliver to you earlier."
"What letter? Where is it? Give it to me now!" Mu Jinhang's crimson eyes fixed intently on the secretary.
The secretary quickly handed him a box, explaining, "After you broke up with Sister Qin Xi, she came to me several times, asking me to help deliver her letters to you. However... at that time, you didn't want to read them and ordered me to burn them. Please forgive my presumption; I kept these letters instead."
At her words, Mu Jinhang recalled the time two years ago when he had broken up with Qin Xi. She had desperately clung to him, trying to reconcile.
He felt impatient and utterly disgusted.
Qin Xi began writing letters, but he refused to read them and commanded the secretary to burn any future letters from her.
Mu Jinhang opened the box, revealing a collection of handwritten letters from Qin Xi.
...
"Mu Jinhang, you are the most handsome man I have ever seen. I love your brows, your eyes, your lips... every part of you is exactly what I adore. But how can I become the person you like?"
"Mu Jinhang, when we were together, I had many plans: to watch flowers bloom, to see the grass grow, to enjoy sunsets together... After our breakup, you became my only plan. Even if you just glanced at me once more, I would feel that all my efforts for this plan were worthwhile. But now your eyes no longer hold me."
"Mu Jinhang, I have loved you for three years and three months. I hope that tomorrow you will turn back and look at me."
"Mu Jinhang, since we broke up, I have been unable to sleep. It would be best if you moved back in."
"Mu Jinhang, you make it so difficult for me even to dream."
...
Mu Jinhang finished reading all the letters, and instead of alleviating the suffocating feeling inside him, it only intensified his oppression.
A thin sheet of paper felt as heavy as a thousand pounds pressing down on his heart.
Every word was a torment.
After two years, Mu Jinhang finally realized that he had never truly loved Qin Zhiruo.
He had merely been infatuated with her deep affection because he could not obtain the unwavering devotion he desired from Qin Xi, thinking that this would fill the immense void left by Qin Xi's betrayal.
But Qin Xi was Qin Xi; her feelings were irreplaceable.
After a long silence, Mu Jinhang finally spoke in a hoarse voice, "Find her! I refuse to believe she’s dead! As long as she remains unaccounted for, you must keep searching for her!"
The secretary moved her lips, wanting to tell him that those who had been missing for so long in the earthquake were as good as dead, and that they were likely buried deep underground, never to be found again.
However, seeing Mu Jinhang's crazed and obsessive demeanor, the secretary dared not voice these thoughts and could only agree, "Yes, I will immediately arrange for a dedicated search team!"
