Chapter 4: Unexpectedly You
The scars from five years ago were reopened once again.
This time, Qin Xi did not feel any pain.
She was only worried about where Ning Bao was, whether anyone was hurting him, if he was eating well, and how he was sleeping… Ning Bao was alone in an unfamiliar place; he must be crying for his mommy.
Mu Jinhang was uneasy about Qin Xi being alone in the apartment. He insisted on taking her back to his home and immediately sent people to secretly investigate Ning Bao's whereabouts overnight.
"No matter whether Ning Bao is my child or not, I could never harm him." In the middle of the night, Mu Jinhang held Qin Xi tightly, gently kissing her forehead. "Qin Xi, I am very happy. Thank you for giving birth to Ning Bao."
"But Ning Bao…" Qin Xi clutched Mu Jinhang's shirt, her eyes stinging with unshed tears.
Mu Jinhang narrowed his eyes, a cold light flashing through them. "Don't worry. No matter who took Ning Bao away, I will find out!"
And he would never let the perpetrator go!
After Ning Bao was kidnapped, the atmosphere in the villa became tense. The butler and the servants were also worried, fearing that the kidnappers would harm such a lovely child.
Ji Li learned that Mu Jinhang had returned to the country and brought Qin Xi back with him; his expression turned extremely grim.
"Xi, you can't trust him!" On the phone, Ji Li's tone sounded anxious.
"I have already informed him about Ning Bao."
"So what? When Ning Bao was kidnapped, Mu Jinhang had no idea. Even if he knows Ning Bao's identity now, he would never admit to it. He would just quietly release Ning Bao and pretend that he couldn't find out anything. This is all just a show for you..."
"Ji Li!" Qin Xi couldn't help but interrupt him, "What is wrong with you? You never used to suspect someone without any evidence like this."
Ji Li suddenly fell silent, and after a long pause, said, "I'm sorry. I was too impatient. I have always regarded Ning Bao as my own child. Now that he is missing, I am genuinely worried and afraid that you will be deceived and hurt."
Qin Xi recalled how Ji Li had cared for her and Ning Bao over the past five years, feeling increasingly guilty. However, she could not develop romantic feelings for Ji Li; she couldn't deceive him.
On the third night after Ning Bao's kidnapping, Qin Xi suddenly received a call from Qin Madam: "The child you have with Mu Jinhang is in my hands."
"I didn't expect it to be you!"
"You harmed Qin Zhiruo so badly; how could you not expect retribution?" Qin Madam gritted her teeth. "If you want this child to live, follow my instructions obediently. Otherwise, I will chop off his hand immediately!"
Qin Xi's heart tightened. "What do you want?"
Qin Madam sneered. "You are not allowed to say a word to anyone. Go alone to the location I specify. If you dare tell Mu Jinhang or anyone else, don't blame me for being ruthless!"
As she spoke, the sound of a child's short cries came from the other end of the line, instantly tearing at Qin Xi's heart. She trembled and said, "I promise you, I will do as you say! Just don't hurt him!"
Before long, Qin Xi received a text message from Qin Madam instructing her to go to the abandoned factory in the suburbs immediately.
She dared not delay, nor could she tell Mu Jinhang. Holding back her tears, she hurriedly ran out.
The butler wanted to call out to Qin Xi, but he saw that she had already disappeared through the door.
Worried that Qin Xi might encounter trouble going out at such a late hour, he went to the study to find Mu Jinhang.
"Did she run out alone?" Mu Jinhang suddenly stood up.
The butler replied, "Yes. I noticed something was off with Qin Jie; I feared something might happen..."
Before he could finish, Mu Jinhang had already strode out.
Moments later, a Lamborghini sped out of the villa, its bright headlights cutting through the darkness like cold steel.
