Chapter 6: The Child Is Not in My Hands
As if to confirm Madam Qin's words, a child's cry suddenly echoed from behind the abandoned factory.
"Ning Bao!" Qin Xi shouted immediately, tears that she had held back for so long finally streaming down her face as she fixed her gaze on the source of the sound. "Ning Bao! Mommy is here. Don't be afraid; Mommy will take you home!"
There was no response.
The child's cries were brief, as if someone had covered their mouth to stifle them.
Qin Xi's heart was in turmoil, and she couldn't help but plead with Madam Qin, "As long as you let Ning Bao go, I don't care what you do to me. Even if you want my life... mmm!"
Mu Jinhang covered her mouth, preventing her from finishing that sentence.
He absolutely could not lose Qin Xi!
Mu Jinhang remained calmer than Qin Xi, coldly staring at Madam Qin. "Let's make a deal. If you release Ning Bao, I won't press charges against Qin Zhiruo, and I will ensure she is released from custody without any further consequences."
Madam Qin's eyes widened in urgency. "Mu Jinhang, can you really get Qin Zhiruo out?"
"Yes," Mu Jinhang affirmed confidently. "As long as I withdraw the charges against her, the car accident will be classified as an unfortunate incident, with no connection to her."
Madam Qin's face lit up with joy as she tightly grasped Mu Jinhang's hand. "Then hurry and withdraw the charges! Once you do, I will release your child!"
Mu Jinhang stared at her in silence, his gaze sharp enough to pierce through one's heart.
Qin Madam felt a rush of anxiety under his scrutiny and forced herself to remain calm. "I mean what I say; as long as you can ensure Qin Zhiruo's safety..."
"The child is not in your hands at all!" Mu Jinhang suddenly interrupted her sharply, gripping Qin Madam's throat tightly. "You are indeed lying, deceiving Qin Xi into coming here to harm her! You deserve to die!"
Qin Madam's eyes rolled back as she struggled for breath.
The two men stepped forward to intervene, but unexpectedly, Mu Jinhang's bodyguard had already jumped in silently through the window, quickly subduing them from behind.
"Mr. Mu, we found this in the back," one bodyguard rushed in, holding a recorder and dragging another person along with him.
Realizing the situation had been exposed, the man quickly pointed at Qin Madam. "She paid us to do this. We didn’t actually kidnap your child; we were just trying to scare you with the recording."
In other words, Ning Bao was still missing.
Qin Xi's face turned pale instantly.
"How do you know Ning Bao was kidnapped?!" Mu Jinhang demanded harshly, directing his question at Qin Madam.
Choking on her words due to the grip on her throat, Qin Madam managed to utter a few syllables: "It... it was your servant's..."
Bang!
Mu Jinhang threw her to the ground and picked up Qin Xi in a horizontal embrace, striding away from the factory.
Sitting in the car, Qin Xi murmured, “How did you know that Ning Bao wasn’t in her hands?”
Mu Jinhang held her tightly, his voice low with concern. “You were too worried about Ning Bao, so you didn’t hear that the child’s cries weren’t actually Ning Bao’s.”
“Then where is Ning Bao? Is he in danger? I really miss him! I can’t be without Ning Bao!” Qin Xi leaned against Mu Jinhang’s chest, finally breaking down in tears.
She had thought that Ning Bao was with Qin Madam and had rushed over without hesitation, only to discover that it was all part of Qin Madam’s revenge scheme. To this day, there was still no sign of Ning Bao!
Qin Xi hadn’t slept for two nights, her heart racing with anxiety. After crying, she finally couldn’t hold on any longer and fell asleep.
Mu Jinhang brought her back to the villa and gently laid her on the bed. For the first time in his life, he felt helplessly pained, unsure of how to ease Qin Xi’s suffering.
He turned and left the bedroom, dialing his secretary. “Place an order on the black market. We must find out Ning Bao’s whereabouts!”
