Chapter 40: Don't Expect Him to Take You Away
On an unregulated island in the international waters of Country K.
This is a deserted island where no nation dares to intervene in its affairs, fearing it would lead to further disputes. Naturally, there are no law enforcement officers patrolling the area.
Qin Xi walked to the window, gazing at the distant, hazy sea. Her heart felt heavy, as if weighed down by a massive stone.
She never expected Ji Li would bring her here.
This meant she couldn't seek help from the police of any country; she could only rely on herself to escape or wait for Mu Jinhang to rescue her.
“Mommy, I'm so thirsty…” Ning Bao, lying on the bed, woke up.
Qin Xi poured a glass of warm water and slowly fed it to Ning Bao. She then touched his forehead and smiled gently, “At least your fever is gone now.”
She had only learned last night that Ning Bao had contracted the flu virus when Ji Li brought her to the island. He had been burning with fever throughout the night and needed two IV drips before his temperature finally dropped.
Qin Xi dared not sleep or leave his side for even a moment, staying by him until now.
Ji Li gently knocked on the door from outside, “Xi, may I come in?”
Qin Xi remained silent.
Ning Bao looked up and asked, “Mommy, why won't you let Daddy in?”
He had no idea what was really happening.
Qin Xi wanted to tell Ning Bao that this was not his Daddy; he was a complete lunatic.
But she worried that Ning Bao might not be able to handle such information, so she kept quiet and remained cold towards Ji Li.
For two consecutive days, they had been stuck on this island.
Despite Qin Xi's attempts to use a cold demeanor to dissuade Ji Li, Ji Li seemed unfazed, continuing to treat her with the same gentleness as before, though his eyes occasionally revealed an undeniable bitterness.
"Xi, do you like it here? If you enjoy this island, we can stay here forever," Ji Li said with a smile.
Qin Xi was taken aback. "No way!"
"You finally want to talk to me," Ji Li's eyes sparkled with joy, and his tone became even gentler. "Why not? This island is ungoverned and free; you can do whatever you want without anyone interfering."
That was precisely what worried Qin Xi the most.
Due to the lack of governance on the island, pirates often roamed about, and the residents lived by the law of the jungle. Even if someone were killed here, no one would care.
How could Qin Xi possibly want to live in such a lawless place?
She looked coldly at Ji Li. "You claim to love me, yet you forcefully imprison me here. In my eyes, you're even more terrifying than Mu Jinhang!"
Ji Li's expression darkened instantly, losing all traces of warmth.
Qin Xi watched him warily.
After a long silence, Ji Li spoke in a hoarse voice. "Mu Jinhang won't find this place. Don't expect him to take you away."
A chill ran through Qin Xi's heart.
That night, she couldn't sleep.
To prevent her from escaping, Ji Li had deliberately separated her from Ning Bao and Zhang Shu—Aunt Zhang.
He understood Qin Xi's nature well; she would never abandon her family to flee alone.
As Qin Xi turned over in bed, she suddenly saw a shadow pressed against the window, sending chills down her spine and nearly causing her to scream.
"Mu Jinhang?!" It wasn't until she approached that she realized it was indeed him.
Tears streamed down her face in an instant.
At that moment, she realized just how much she missed him!
Qin Xi cautiously opened the window, and Mu Jinhang quickly jumped in, wrapping his arms around her with such force that it felt like he might crush her bones.
“How did you find me?” She struggled to suppress her excitement, her voice barely a whisper as she formed the words with her lips.
“The ring.” Mu Jinhang grabbed her hand and kissed it firmly.
He had embedded a precise micro-tracker within the diamond ring.
Neither of them could spare a moment for anything else; Mu Jinhang was ready to take her away immediately.
Qin Xi shook her head. “Ning Bao and Aunt Zhang are being held captive elsewhere. I can’t leave them behind.”
In the end, Mu Jinhang decided they should rescue the others first.
