Chapter 4: Going to the Civil Affairs Bureau for the Certificate
The night enveloped the city.
After Qin Xi had lulled Ning Bao to sleep, she suddenly heard the sound of a doorbell ringing outside.
She opened the door to find Mu Jinhang standing there, reeking of alcohol, his dark eyes fixed intently on her. "Why?"
"What?" Qin Xi was puzzled by his abrupt question.
"Why don't you want to marry me?" Mu Jinhang pulled her into an embrace, his voice hoarse and low, sounding deeply hurt. "I heard you; you never thought about marrying me. Do you really not want to accept me again?"
"You’re drunk," Qin Xi said, feeling as if she could hardly breathe from his tight hold.
"I'm not drunk." Mu Jinhang gazed deeply into her eyes. "Qin Xi, tell me the reason."
His tone was stubborn, as if he wouldn’t give up until he got an answer.
Qin Xi fell silent for a moment before whispering, "I'm really tired. I just want to live quietly."
Mu Jinhang suddenly tightened his grip around her. "Then will you quietly wait to be my bride?"
"You..." Qin Xi's heart raced unexpectedly.
"You only need to do one thing: come with me to the Civil Affairs Bureau to get our marriage certificate."
"I'll take care of everything else. I will ensure that you can live the life you want without anyone disturbing you ever again."
"Most importantly, Ning Bao needs a complete family too."
Looking into Mu Jinhang's deep, dark eyes, Qin Xi opened her mouth but couldn't utter a single word, her eyes feeling a bit sore.
She heard a voice in her heart sighing: You will never escape his grasp; you might as well agree to him.
At the Mu Family Old Residence.
Mu Jinhang stood expressionless before Mu Laoyezai. "Grandfather, Qin Xi and I are getting married."
"Is this a notification to me?"
"I'm inviting you to our wedding."
"You!" Mu Laoyezai was so furious that he nearly choked on his words.
The Old Butler quickly handed over a cup of hot tea.
After taking a sip, Mu Laotaiye calmed down after a while. "What is it about her that has kept you infatuated for five years? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"
Mu Jinhang replied softly, "Grandfather, I just want you to meet your great-grandson soon."
"What?" Mu Laotaiye frowned.
"Let Ning Bao in," Mu Jinhang instructed his secretary outside the door.
Moments later, a little figure wobbled in, her face rosy and her big watery eyes curiously looking at Mu Laotaiye and the others. She then stood obediently beside Mu Jinhang.
"This is my and Qin Xi's child, who should have been included in the family tree five years ago," Mu Jinhang said to the old man before gently patting Ning Bao's head, encouraging her to call him Great-Grandfather.
"Ning Bao" called out in a sweet, childlike voice, "Great-Grandfather."
In truth, he had no idea what "Great-Grandfather" meant.
However, this did not hinder "Mu Laotaiye's" shock and delight. Despite his old age, he effortlessly lifted "Ning Bao" and sat him on his lap, his eyes filled with affection.
"This is the paternity test report for me and Ning Bao," "Mu Jinhang" said as he handed over the document.
"Mu Laotaiye" didn’t even glance at him; instead, he focused on teasing "Ning Bao," his love for the child evident in every word.
The "Old Butler" shook his head with a smile. Even though they were two generations apart, the old man felt even closer to this great-grandson.
When "Mu Jinhang" prepared to leave, "Mu Laotaiye" suddenly scolded him in displeasure, "You should have gotten married long ago! It's been five years, and I didn't even know I had a great-grandson out there. Thankfully nothing happened; otherwise, I would have broken your legs!"
The secretary looked at the calm expression on "Mu Jinhang's" face and couldn't help but admire his composure.
When "Mrs. Mu" learned that "Ning Bao" was her grandson, she accepted it, even if she still found "Qin Xi" hard to tolerate.
