“Really?” Although Li Qiang had only done this to help Guo Yuzhen, hearing that Qin Zongfeng was not as promiscuous as he had imagined made him feel much more at ease.
Qin Zongfeng could easily see through Li Qiang's little thoughts. She shot him a glance and said, “Of course! Do you think I’m just anyone? Hmph! After hearing the explanation from the south, Li Qiang's attitude towards Qin Zongfeng did a complete turnaround. He grinned and wrapped his arms around her waist. Now he felt that her waist seemed much slimmer. The two were pressed tightly together, and Li Qiang playfully nibbled on Qin Zongfeng's cheek, saying, “Alright, good sister, promise me that from now on, I’ll be the only one who sleeps with you. Deal?”
With Li Qiang holding her like that, Qin Zongfeng felt a rush of warmth in her heart, and something stirred within her. Over the years, it seemed like only her late husband had held her so intimately. Other men? Hmph...
“Fine, whatever you say!” Qin Zongfeng blushed and avoided Li Qiang’s burning gaze. Oh my, am I actually feeling shy? What’s going on today? This little troublemaker really is my nemesis.
“Hehe, sis, you should clean up too. We’ll head out later. Whenever I have time, I’ll come to the city to find you and make sure you’re comfortable!” Li Qiang said with a mischievous grin as he pinched Qin Zongfeng's fair skin.
Meanwhile, Ge Jia Ping and Guo Yuzhen were still at odds. However, Guo Yuzhen had stopped crying and was now sitting down with Xiao Fei, who was sniffling.
“Yuzhen, Manager Qin isn’t actually a bad person. If you soften your tone a bit, she won’t be angry,” Ge Jia Ping said with a troubled expression. Even though Guo Yuzhen hadn’t shared a room with him for years, the bond they had built over their marriage couldn’t just be severed so easily. “Don’t worry; I’ll still send money back regularly.”
“Ge Jia Ping, I don’t blame you for finding another woman. But you shouldn’t have brought her back and let her humiliate Xiao Fei without doing anything about it. Do you understand?” Guo Yuzhen’s voice was calm but firm. She was utterly disappointed in this man, even if he promised to send money back.
“Jia Ping, pack your things and leave. This house is done,” Qin Zongfeng’s proud voice echoed again in the room, silencing whatever Ge Jia Ping had intended to say next. He glanced at Guo Yuzhen with a sigh before heading into the room to gather his clothes.
After speaking, Qin Zongfeng looked at Li Qiang and said, “Brother, shall we go check out your Gourd Field now?”
Li Qiang nodded and looked at Guo Yuzhen, lifting the watermelon he had placed on the ground and presenting it to her. He spoke gently, "Aunt, when we cut this open later, you and Xiao Fei should have some. You haven't eaten yet, right? Don't let yourselves go hungry. No matter what, this body is ours; we can't neglect it."
Hearing Li Qiang's tender words of concern, Guo Yuzhen felt a wave of grievance wash over her once again. She didn't care if anyone was around; she burst into tears, tightly hugging Li Qiang. "Wuwu, Qiang Zi, do you think Aunt must have done something wrong in her past life? Why else would I have to suffer so much in this life?"
Guo Yuzhen's sudden outburst left Li Qiang somewhat at a loss. He glanced at Qin Zongfeng, whose expression was not very pleasant, but he brushed it off and gently patted Guo Yuzhen's back. "Alright, it's okay. Don't cry anymore. I'm here for you, right? Just stop crying, okay?"
After a while, as if she had cried enough, Guo Yuzhen realized her actions were a bit inappropriate and hurriedly said, "Qiang Zi, did you come just to bring me the watermelon?"
At that moment, Li Qiang almost forgot his original purpose for being there. He scratched his head and replied, "Aunt, you're so thoughtful! If you hadn't mentioned it, I might have forgotten. Aunt Yu Feng sent me to buy soy sauce."
Feeling much better after crying, Guo Yuzhen walked over to the counter and took out two bottles of soy sauce, handing them to Li Qiang. "Here you go. Hurry back; don't keep Aunt Yu Feng waiting."
Seeing that Guo Yuzhen seemed to be in a better mood, Li Qiang nodded and took out ten yuan to place on the counter. Ignoring Qin Zongfeng standing nearby, he lowered his voice and said, "Aunt, leave the door open for me tonight; I’ll come find you."
Upon hearing this, Guo Yuzhen felt a rush of warmth at the thought of Li Qiang's large figure potentially overwhelming her own body. She blushed deeply; it embarrassed her that despite her husband wanting a divorce, she reacted so strongly to Li Qiang’s words. When had she fallen so low? It was mortifying!
Noticing Guo Yuzhen's flushed and shy demeanor, Li Qiang chuckled softly and was about to speak when Ge Jia Ping walked out from the inner room carrying a package. Li Qiang glanced at him and said to Guo Yuzhen, "Aunt, I’ll head back now."
"Alright then, sister, let’s go," Qin Zongfeng interjected. If it weren't for her good temperament, any other woman would have torn Li Qiang apart for being so tender with another woman right after sleeping with her.
"Hmph! Still willing to leave?" Qin Zongfeng scolded as she looked at Ge Jia Ping's sorrowful face. "What are you standing there for? Can't bear to leave? If you can't bear it then just stay!" With that, she turned and walked out.
Li Qiang couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for Ge Jia Ping as he observed how little standing he had in front of Qin Zongfeng compared to how he used to be regarded in the village. He felt slightly guilty for sleeping with Ge Jia Ping's woman but quickly dismissed that thought when he remembered how he had abandoned his wife and children. Any remaining pity vanished from his heart.
Leading Qin Zongfeng towards his home, Li Qiang recounted the situation to Li Yufeng once they arrived. After listening to Li Qiang's plans, Li Yufeng nodded in agreement, acknowledging that it was indeed the best course of action. After all, even at wholesale prices, they wouldn't be at a loss, especially since the watermelons were maturing early this year and selling much better than before.
With that, Li Qiang guided Qin Zongfeng to his Gourd Field.
"Wow, Qiangzi, what kind of fertilizer are you using? These watermelons look incredible!" Upon arriving at the field and seeing the large, round watermelons, Qin Zongfeng was astonished. A thought suddenly flashed through his mind: could it be that the quality of a person's character reflects in the fruits they grow?
