I raised my gaze to Hong Qiao and spoke clearly, "Sister, I am the rightful heir. If you insist on this course of action, divine retribution will surely come."
"Ha!" Hong Qiao scoffed, "Divine retribution? Do you really think I would believe your words?"
Not just Hong Qiao, but everyone present seemed to doubt my claim. How could a princess with such lackadaisical cultivation and weak spiritual power possibly be the heir? And how could a white fox consort, despised by all, ever transform into Nine-Tails?
My mother’s gaze was icy. "Hong Jiao, if you do not step aside, do not blame me for being ruthless!"
As soon as she finished speaking, I felt a powerful surge of spiritual energy rushing toward us, forcing both me and Yu Cheng back out of the arena.
"Get away from me!"
My mother huffed coldly. "Today is a joyous occasion for Hong Qiao to receive her inheritance. I do not wish to spill blood; do not push me!"
"Princess, are you alright?" Yu Cheng asked as he supported me, concern etched on his face.
"I'm fine," I shook my head.
"Hong Jiao, if you dare utter another word, I will not spare you!" My mother glared at me, her eyes filled with warning.
"Mother, have you thought this through?" I chuckled lightly. "This isn’t about my unwillingness to intervene; it’s that you won’t let me."
"If that is the case, then I shall not interfere."
With that, I took a few steps back, feigning disinterest in the matter.
My mother snorted coldly and turned toward Hong Qiao. "Let’s begin."
As soon as she finished speaking, Hong Qiao transformed into Red Fox, her single tail gradually morphing into Nine-Tails. Her tails were a soft shade of red, emitting a faint glow—exquisitely beautiful.
"It’s Nine-Tails! It really is Nine-Tails!" The crowd erupted in cheers.
"Hurry, absorb the spiritual energy released by Nine-Tails; we must not waste it!"
I raised my gaze and noticed that almost everyone was immersed in the spiritual energy released by the Nine-Tails. However, gradually, they began to sense something was amiss. The spiritual energy merely passed by them without bestowing any favor.
"What’s going on?" someone questioned.
"I don’t know; I can’t absorb this spiritual energy either."
"Could it be that this isn’t the real Nine-Tails?"
"What are you talking about? That’s the Red Charming Princess!"
"But if that’s the case, why is this spiritual energy only passing by us and not being absorbed?"
As soon as those words were spoken, the crowd erupted in chaos. Panic spread among everyone.
Hong Qiao seemed to sense something was wrong as well. After completing her transformation, she knelt on the ground and bowed to the heavens and earth.
"Hong Qiao has completed her transformation; please accept the inheritance!"
Yet, there was no response from the heavens or earth.
Hong Qiao panicked. She knelt down again and earnestly said, "Hong Qiao has completed her transformation; please accept the inheritance!"
But once more, there was only silence around her, with no reaction whatsoever.
In an instant, everyone was stunned. They looked at the scene before them in disbelief, their eyes filled with shock.
"How could this happen?"
"Could it be… could it be that what the Second Princess said was true?"
I stood beside Yu Cheng, my expression calm.
"Stop shouting; she won’t be able to receive the inheritance."
At these words, the entire place fell into a dead silence.
Everyone looked up at me, their eyes filled with shock.
“Bastard!” the Empress Mother roared, a powerful pressure bearing down on me, forcing me to kneel on the ground. “You may cause a ruckus from time to time, but now that your sister is accepting her inheritance, how dare you disrupt!”
“Hong Jiao, hurry and apologize to the Fox Empress!” black fox urged from the side.
I did not look at him but raised my gaze to the Empress Mother. “Mother, are you sure you want to treat me this way?”
The Empress Mother sneered, “What else should I do?”
She raised her hand and swung it towards my face.
But in the next moment, Yu Cheng appeared in front of me.
The slap from the Empress Mother landed squarely on Yu Cheng's face.
As a mere White Fox, how could he withstand the blow from the Nine-Tailed Red Fox?
He fell heavily to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
