The process of moving the female corpse went smoothly, without any unexpected incidents. Surprisingly, the corpse was very light, and the four of us felt no strain at all while handling her. However, when we set her down, Xiao Hu suddenly let out a piercing scream. He looked at his hands, which were covered in blood. "Blood! Blood!" he cried. 0

It was then that we noticed our hands were stained red as well. The clothes on the corpse were not red by design; they had been soaked in blood, turning them crimson. The Mourning Matron leaned on her cane and stepped forward to gaze at the body, letting out a long sigh. 0

"Alas, it's no wonder she ended up like this. But why are there tens of thousands of Apple Snails on her?" 0

No one dared to answer the Mourning Matron's question. Faced with this eerie scene, we barely dared to breathe. After a long silence, she finally spoke again. "Well then, let’s perform a rite for the girl and burn her body. Use peach wood for the coffin and seal it with cold iron." 0

"Peach wood for the coffin and cold iron to seal it?" The Village Chief seemed surprised. "This... this is heavy with resentment!" 0

The Mourning Matron shot him a cold glance. "What else would you suggest?" 0

The Village Chief awkwardly closed his mouth and hurriedly motioned for us to prepare the necessary items. As we burned the body, hundreds of fist-sized Apple Snails crawled into the flames, turning to ash in an instant. 0

The villagers nervously looked towards the Mourning Matron. "Should we stop them?" 0

She shook her head. "No need; they willingly accompany this girl in death." 0

Following the Mourning Matron's instructions, we continued to burn the body until sunset, finally laying the female corpse to rest. After burying her, the Mourning Matron instructed each of us to bow three times before the grave. 0

"Forgive us, dear girl." 0

After everything was done, the Mourning Matron waved her hand, signaling us to leave. As we were departing, she specifically told the villagers, "For the next seven days, do not interact with any unfamiliar women in the village, especially those who come from outside." 0

The villagers all responded, "Mourning Matron, we will remember." 0

However, just two days later, my good brother Lin Kai strolled through the village with a beautiful girl by his side. I approached Lin Kai and asked him how he could forget the Mourning Matron's warning so quickly. 0

Lin Kai grinned and put his arm around my shoulder, pointing at the girl. "Look, this is my cousin. She came to visit us during her break. I thought I'd take her around the village for a couple of days." 0

Visiting the village? What could possibly be interesting here given the current situation? I was about to advise Lin Kai to send the girl back when I suddenly remembered that Lin Kai didn't have a cousin. "Who are you trying to fool? I know your family situation; where did this cousin come from?" 0

Lin Kai scratched his head and chuckled awkwardly. "Come on, she's from my aunt's family who married far away. You haven't seen her because she's been studying in a big city. She just got back for vacation and wanted to see us." 0

I frowned. "How long is she planning to stay?" 0

"Just a few days; she'll head back soon," Lin Kai assured me as he patted his chest. "I promise it’ll be fine." 0

"Also, you know my place is small and there’s no room left. Why don’t you let her stay at your house for a few days?" 0

Before I could refuse, Lin Kai wrapped his arm around my shoulder and pleaded, "We're good brothers; you have to help me out with this." 0

I glanced at Lin Kai and then at the girl behind him. She was quite attractive, with a good figure and graceful demeanor—definitely someone cultured from the city. 0

"Alright, just for a few days," I nodded in agreement with Lin Kai. 0

Lin Kai beamed with joy. "See? We are like brothers!" 0

The girl approached me politely and introduced herself, "Hello, I'm Jin Can Can. I'll be bothering you for the next few days." 0

I quickly waved my hand dismissively. "No trouble at all." 0

Jin Can Can was stunningly beautiful, dressed in a white dress that cinched at her waist with a ribbon, perfectly accentuating her slender figure. 0

Jin Can Can always wore a smile on her face, and her demeanor was so graceful that no one could find any fault with her. However, there was one peculiar thing about her: she walked with her legs together, taking tiny steps each time she moved. 0

I looked at Jin Can Can in confusion and asked, "Why do you walk like that? Wouldn't it be faster to take longer strides?" 0

She smiled and replied, "It's just a habit." 0

I nodded, thinking that this must be a sign of her being a proper lady. 0
