Lin Yang's eyes flashed with anger as he chased after me. Just then, a small figure collided into my arms. 0

“Mom! Mom, are you okay?” 0

The child rushed in and clung to my legs, looking up at me with wide eyes. This was the girl I had found in Mianbei. She had no parents since she was little, had fought dogs for food, and had been scratched by cats. Yet, she was smart and very understanding. 0

“Ping Ping, what are you doing here?” 0

Lin Yang caught up and, upon seeing Ping Ping, his expression changed dramatically. 0

“Zhou Qin, is this your illegitimate child from Mianbei?” 0

I let out a cold laugh. “Lin Yang, how disgusting can you be?” 0

“This child is not an illegitimate child; her last name is Zhou!” 0

Lin Yang's gaze was as sharp as a knife directed at Ping Ping. She flinched slightly but then stood her ground, defiantly blocking me. 0

“Bad man, you can't bully my mom!” 0

Lin Yang seemed taken aback. He took a step forward, his eyes cold and filled with malice. 0

Ping Ping instinctively stepped back but still stood firm in front of me. Lin Yang halted in his tracks and turned to look at me. 0

“Zhou Qin, is this child… really yours?” 0

I scoffed, "What does it matter to you?" 0
Lin Yang narrowed his eyes, "Impossible, this is definitely more than five years!" 0
"Zhou Qin, do you think I would believe that?" 0
I shrugged dismissively, "Believe it or not, it's up to you." 0
I grabbed Ping Ping's hand and turned to leave. 0
But Lin Yang suddenly held me back. 0
He stared at me, his gaze intense, "Zhou Qin, I was wrong about what happened back then." 0
"If you come back with me, I will make it up to you." 0
I smiled lightly, "No need." 0
"Lin Yang, just go." 0
I tried to shake off his hand, but it felt like I couldn't break free. 0
I turned to glare at him. 0
Yet he held on tightly, refusing to let go. 0
Frustrated, I was about to tell him to get lost when I suddenly saw Ping Ping collapse. 0
I was startled and quickly crouched down to help her. 0
But my hands were met with blood. 0
"Ping Ping, what's wrong?" 0
Ping Ping's face was pale, yet she still apologized to me with guilt. 0
"I'm sorry, Mom, I've caused you trouble." 0
I gritted my teeth and pulled up her shirt. 0
There on her back was a huge wound, still oozing blood. 0
"What on earth happened?" 0
Lin Yang also saw it; he froze for a moment before letting go of my hand. 0

I could no longer hold back and shouted at Lin Yi beside me, "Lin Yi, what have you done?" 0

Lin Yi's gaze shifted uneasily. "I..." 0

I coldly replied, "Lin Yang, as long as you take Ping Ping back with you and get her treated, I will forgive you." 0

I followed Lin Yang back to the Lin family home. 0

Upon returning, I looked closely at my son, Lin Yi. He was already eight years old and quite handsome. Yet, there was a coldness in his expression that mirrored Lin Yang's. 0

When he saw that I had stayed at the Lin family home, his eyes instantly filled with resentment. 0

I sighed, intending to ask Lin Yang to comfort our son, but then I noticed Lin Yi reaching for the safety charm around Ping Ping's neck. It was something I had cut out myself from cardboard. 0

I had adopted Ping Ping when she was just four years old. In the harsh winter, she stood shivering in a corner, wearing thin clothes, her eyes timid like a stray puppy. 0

I took her in and named her Ping Ping, hoping she would be safe year after year. 0

I made her winter clothes, braided her hair, and crafted toys for her. In return, she filled my life with endless warmth. 0

On cold winter nights, she would snuggle up to warm my bed. She saved up her pocket money to buy me hair accessories. She would call me "Mommy," saying I was the best mother in the world. 0
