"Give me a pulse check, Barefoot Doctor. I have some doubts."
"This pulse of Xu Kun shows no signs of any issues," I sighed and shook my head.
"Some signs you can't see," the doctor replied.
"If there were instruments, it would be clear," Barefoot Doctor nodded at me.
Ms . Lin also took this in, nodding as she led us away.
On the way back, I held Lin Yu's hand. "Lin Yu, I'm so hungry. Can you buy me something to eat?"
Lin Yu nodded and prepared to buy something.
Ms . Lin snorted coldly. "All you think about is eating. Don't spoil him too much."
Lin Yu frowned. "Mom, why do you always say that? If you had ever bought me a man, I wouldn't spoil him."
Ms . Lin was left speechless, fuming as she walked ahead.
The next morning, Lin Yu had the Ox Cart ready early and prepared some soft bone powder for me, intending to take me to see a doctor.
The Ox Cart swayed for several hours before finally reaching the county town.
Lin Yu brought me to a small clinic.
I secretly handed the prepared red envelope to the doctor and gave him a knowing glance.
The doctor immediately understood, accepting the red envelope with a smile.
He led me into an inner room.
After a series of procedures, the doctor came out. "Miss, your husband is fine; he just has a bit of weakness. The quality of his tadpoles isn't great. Make sure he gets plenty of nourishment and rest when you go back."
Upon hearing this, Lin Yu nodded enthusiastically.
Ms . Li instantly beamed with joy.
Watching their expressions, I silently cursed in my heart. "Want to have children? Dream on; you two will never have kids in this lifetime."
I followed Lin Yu out of the clinic and glanced back at the hospital's main entrance, silently noting the route.
On the way back, I made an excuse about wanting to buy clothes and asked Lin Yu to take me shopping.
Lin Yu hesitated for a moment but eventually nodded.
After returning home, I resumed my previous life. The Lin family treated me like a protected animal, keeping me under close watch. Every day, they provided me with food and drink.
A month passed, and Lin Yu was pregnant as expected. One day, while I was lying in bed taking a nap, Ms . Lin yanked me off the bed.
"You lazy bum, still sleeping? Hurry up and get to the woodshed!"
With Ms . Lin pulling my hair, I was dragged to the woodshed. Lin Yu stood there, holding a shovel and looking at me with a menacing glare.
"What are you doing?" I asked.
Lin Yu sneered coldly. "What am I doing? According to village rules, you’re going to die."
Ms . Lin stood by with her arms crossed, glaring at me fiercely. "Now that my daughter is pregnant, you’re of no use."
I trembled and took two steps back, falling to the ground. "No, please don’t kill me. I—I…"
Ms . Lin clicked her tongue in annoyance. "Lin Yu, what are you waiting for? Get on with it."
Hearing this, Lin Yu raised the shovel and swung it towards me.
"Stop!" Chen Yong rushed in from the doorway and snatched the shovel from Lin Yu's hands.
Ms . Lin glared at him in dissatisfaction. "You want to die? How dare you stop us?"
Chen Yong smiled slightly and pulled out an identification card from his pocket. "I’m a police officer; you’re all under arrest."
Ms . Lin froze for a moment before scoffing dismissively. "What police officer? Don’t try to scare me."
Chen Yong shook his head in disbelief and waved his hand. A group of police officers rushed in from outside and surrounded us.
Lin Yu was so frightened that she crouched down, covering her head. Ms . Lin attempted to resist but was quickly subdued by the approaching officers.
I stood up from the ground and walked over to Ms . Lin, smiling slightly. "Did you think I went to the hospital just to buy clothes?"
Ms . Lin glared at me fiercely. "It was you who did this!"
I smiled and said, "Yes, I contacted the police. Who told you that you could abduct people?"
Ms . Lin screamed frantically.
"No, we did nothing wrong; we paid for this."
Chen Yong waved his hand helplessly and said, "Take them away."
I followed Chen Yong out of the shed.
Outside, there were more than a dozen police cars parked.
I turned back and took a glance at the house where I had lived for a few months in the village.
Taking a deep breath, I sat in the police car, reflecting on everything that had happened over the past month.
That day, after chatting with Chen Yong, he found me again.
"Do you want to escape? I'm a police officer."
I smiled and replied, "I knew you were not simple. I have a way to catch Yang Fan; do you believe me?"
Chen Yong looked at me with confusion. "What method?"
I leaned closer to his ear and whispered a few words.
After hearing it, Chen Yong's eyes lit up.
"Good idea, let's do it."
So, I devised a plan to fake Lin Yu's pregnancy while comforting her and observing the movements of the villagers.
Chen Yong was also busy investigating Yang Fan.
Sure enough, he found some leads.
It turned out that Yang Fan was not just one person but an organization.
They lured innocent men under the guise of offering high-paying part-time jobs.
They had investigated these men's backgrounds, most of whom were college students like me.
Following the clues, Chen Yong tracked them down to their hideout.
We split up and successfully dismantled this network of human trafficking while also capturing those involved in the village.
