I held Vito tightly in my arms.
His body was growing colder by the moment.
A wave of heart-wrenching pain washed over me.
Could it be that we were really going to die here?
No!
I couldn’t give up!
Even if there was only a glimmer of hope, I had to seize it!
I lifted my head.
Desperately searching everything around me.
Suddenly, I spotted a shadow not far away.
It looked like a forest.
I felt as if I had grasped a lifeline.
"Vito, let's go over there!"
I pointed to the shadowy area and said to Vito.
Vito weakly nodded.
I supported him as we stumbled toward the darkness.
Emily's gunfire echoed behind us.
Bullets whizzed past our ears.
I dared not look back.
I knew that if I stopped, I would become a victim of the gunfire.
We ran into the forest.
The dense trees blocked the moonlight.
They also obscured Emily's line of sight.
The gunfire ceased.
We were finally safe, at least for the moment.
I supported Vito as we navigated through the forest.
His injuries were worsening.
His breaths grew fainter.
I knew I had to find a safe place quickly.
A place where he could heal.
Suddenly, I sensed a familiar presence.
The scent of werewolves.
And not just one.
A surge of hope filled my heart.
Could this be the stronghold of the Moonshadow Wolf Clan?
I quickened my pace.
We walked towards the direction from which the scent was coming.
Soon, we arrived at a clearing.
In the clearing stood several tall figures.
They were all werewolves.
I immediately recognized Alex.
He was the Alpha of the Moonshadow Wolf Clan.
He was also Vito's cousin.
When Alex saw us, a hint of surprise crossed his face.
"Vito? What are you doing here?"
His tone carried a note of confusion, along with a hint of hostility.
Vito did not respond.
He collapsed weakly to the ground.
I quickly supported him.
"Alex, Vito is injured, we need your help!" I said anxiously.
Alex hesitated for a moment.
Then he nodded.
"Mira, come over and check Vito's wounds," he said to a woman behind him.
Mira was the sage of the Moonshadow Wolf Clan.
She was also a skilled healer.
Mira approached and examined Vito's injuries.
Her expression turned serious.
"His injuries are severe and need immediate treatment," Mira said.
"Take him to my room," Alex instructed.
I supported Vito and followed Mira into a wooden cabin.
Inside, the air was filled with the scent of herbs.
Mira helped Vito lie down on the bed and began to treat him.
I stood by anxiously, waiting.
My heart was filled with worry.
I didn't know if Vito would pull through.
Suddenly, a tall figure appeared in the doorway.
It was Noah.
He was the Guardian of the Moonshadow Wolf Clan.
He was also a loyal supporter of Alex.
Noah saw Vito, and a flicker of anger crossed his face.
"Alex, why did you save him? He is a traitor of the Night Wolf Clan!" Noah shouted.
Alex frowned.
"Noah, this is not the time for that. Vito's life is the most important thing right now," Alex said.
"No! I can't let him stay here! He will bring us disaster!" Noah insisted.
"Enough, Noah! I am the Alpha here, and my word is final!"
Alex's tone turned stern.
Noah wanted to say something more.
But upon seeing Alex's gaze, he ultimately kept his mouth shut.
He shot a fierce glare at Vito.
Then he turned and walked away.
I watched Noah's retreating figure, a wave of unease washing over me.
I knew that Noah would not let this go easily.
He would surely find a way to get rid of Vito.
I had to protect Vito.
I couldn't allow him to come to any harm.
Mira finished treating Vito.
Vito's complexion improved a little.
But he still looked weak.
"His condition has stabilized, but he still needs to rest well," Mira said.
"Thank you, Mira," I replied gratefully.
"No need to thank me; it's what I should do," Mira smiled.
"Marina, you stay here and take care of Vito," Alex said.
I nodded.
I walked over to Vito's side and took his hand.
"Vito, you have to get better," I whispered.
Vito opened his eyes and looked at me.
His gaze was filled with tenderness.
"I will, Marina," he said weakly.
I watched him, my heart brimming with love.
I knew that no matter what happened, I would stay by his side.
Suddenly, I heard a commotion outside the door.
My heart tightened.
Could it be the Night Wolf Clan had come after us?
I hurried to the door and peered outside.
I saw a group of werewolves approaching the wooden cabin.
They were menacing.
The newcomers did not come with good intentions.
My heart sank.
It seemed we were once again caught in a new crisis.
