As evening approached, Rao Gang still called Rao Jie to ask if she needed a ride and help with moving things. Wu Rong, upon hearing this, angrily snatched the phone away and hung up.
"Wu Rong!" Rao Jie exclaimed impatiently. She had been trying to explain all afternoon, her throat dry from talking, yet it seemed impossible to get through to him. Why was he so insistent on living together every day? It didn’t seem necessary.
Wu Rong continued to give her the cold shoulder, which only frustrated Rao Jie further. After a while, Wu Rong seemed to enter a closed-off mode, ignoring everything Rao Jie said and focusing solely on her own tasks. It felt no different from a silent treatment.
With no other option, Rao Jie decided not to bother Wu Rong any longer and began packing her bags. However, halfway through, an irate Wu Rong stormed in without a word, grabbed her, and pulled her onto her bed, pinning her down.
"You're not going anywhere! Can't you understand that? Do you want me to lock you up?" Wu Rong said furiously. "Is it more important to you that your cold-hearted family feels better than for me to be happy?"
Rao Jie was at a loss for words due to Wu Rong's outburst. "Wu Rong, can you please be more mature? Is this really something we should compare? I'm just going back temporarily; can you not—"
Before she could finish, she saw Wu Rong's face twist with hurt, as if choosing her parents over him was a personal betrayal. Although it was frustrating, the sight of Wu Rong’s sadness pierced Rao Jie’s heart.
Seeing him so upset made her question whether her actions were truly unfair to him. But when her parents insisted she return home, she felt torn between their wishes and wanting to live with her boyfriend.
"Wu Rong," she swore earnestly, "moving away won’t change anything. Besides not seeing each other at night, you can see me whenever you want. I promise I’ll listen to you about everything else!"
Wu Rong gazed deeply into Rao Jie’s eyes and understood her decision. Although he didn’t want to accept her trivial concerns—feeling they were just unnecessary worries—and strongly opposed her choice to move out, he realized he couldn’t stop her.
Feeling wronged, he buried his face in Rao Jie’s shoulder and sulked, turning away from her and refusing to speak.
Rao Jie disliked the current atmosphere but felt powerless. After hesitating for a moment, she called Rao Gang to inform him that she would return home in the morning.
Hearing the conversation on the phone made Wu Rong stir slightly before Rao Jie hugged him from behind.
"I don’t want to leave you either," she said softly. "But my family finally stopped pushing me into blind dates and accepted my relationship with you. I can’t just cut ties with them at this moment."
Wu Rong huffed twice before flipping over and pinning Rao Jie down again.
Looking up at him, Rao Jie said, "Don’t be mad. Couples who are together every day can get tired of each other; having some time apart helps keep the relationship fresh. It’s beneficial."
Wu Rong stared intently at Rao Jie, who looked back at him with a smiling face.
Wu Rong knew that there were still some things Rao Jie had not said. He couldn't tell if she was holding back or simply unaware of them. Despite everything Rao Jie had said before, it was still not enough for her to decide to go back and stay.
