Rao Jie didn't know how it happened, but Wu Rong gradually started to enjoy messaging her, often using emojis as well. Every time Rao Jie saw a message from Wu Rong, she couldn't help but smile and quickly replied.
Just then, a strange voice came from the doorway. "Are you in touch with your boyfriend?"
Rao Jie was startled and turned to look. Hu Ze was standing at the kitchen door. She had suffered embarrassment when she had been close to him before, having been hugged around the waist, so she felt a bit defensive about his sudden appearance.
Hu Ze was an average-looking guy, but he was very confident and came from a wealthy family. As a result, many women blindly praised him, leading him to develop a misguided sense of self-worth. He believed that as long as he took the initiative, no one would reject him, especially not girls from ordinary families.
Rao Jie was exactly his type: sweet-looking and a high achiever. He imagined that it would be incredibly satisfying to break her down in bed. Hu Ze had this peculiar preference; however, the girls he used to play with were not worth much, making the experience feel fake and uninteresting. He didn't dare approach the proud daughters of wealthy families.
But if he could break down a girl from an ordinary background who would still cling to her marriage vows despite being tormented, that would be truly fascinating. Thus, Hu Ze wanted to marry Rao Jie. To him, it didn't matter who he married; he would still have his fun on the side.
What he never expected was Rao Jie's strong resistance. Despite his advances, she refused to break up with her boyfriend. Even after they eventually split up, she immediately found someone else—she simply wouldn't be with him.
The unattainable always lingered in one's mind. What had started as mere amusement for Hu Ze now turned into an obsession with winning Rao Jie over. He just needed to figure out how to attract her attention and make her infatuated with him.
"I heard your boyfriend is a university professor?" he asked.
Rao Jie wasn't keen on engaging with Hu Ze but felt it would be rude not to respond since he had asked her a question. Their past disagreements were kept hidden beneath the surface.
"Yeah," she replied curtly.
"Isn't a university professor's income pretty average?" Hu Ze remarked with a slight frown.
Rao Jie furrowed her brow slightly. "I’m not concerned about that."
Hu Ze frowned again and said, "I thought you chose him over me because he had some exceptional qualities."
Rao Jie scoffed softly, as if dismissing Hu Ze's words entirely. Exceptional qualities? Hu Ze couldn't even compare to Wu Rong; he didn't even have the right to compete.
Hu Ze felt a bit annoyed by Rao Jie’s attitude and stepped closer, saying, “Actually, you could get to know me better before making a decision.”
At this point, Rao Jie had lost interest in responding. The kitchen was already tidied up, and she turned away from Hu Ze and left the kitchen.
As she was about to pass through the living room to return to her room, it seemed that the Hu family's parents noticed her, prompting the Rao family to turn and look at her as well.
Huang Xiang immediately said, “Why are you being so inconsiderate? Come over and chat with us.”
Seeing Hu Ze following her out of the kitchen, Rao Jie replied directly, “I still have my thesis to finish. I’ll head back to my room now. Uncle and Auntie, please enjoy your conversation.”
“When has there ever been a time when you couldn’t work on your thesis? You won’t even spare a little time for us; that’s quite disrespectful,” Rao Jian scolded sternly.
Rao Jie didn’t even glance at Rao Jian. “I’m sorry, but I really am in a hurry.”
