If the conversation continued, the atmosphere would surely turn sour, so Rao Gang quickly said, "Yeah, you have your defense coming up soon. Time is tight, you should hurry."
With Rao Gang's words, no one insisted further, and Rao Jie finally sighed in relief and returned to her room.
Once back in her room and checking her phone, she found several messages waiting for her. Since she hadn’t replied for a while, Wu Rong was getting impatient.
Wu Rong: "What are you doing? Why haven’t you answered me for so long! Are you forcing me to rush over to your place?"
Rao Jie chuckled at this; her earlier frustration vanished in an instant.
Rao Jie: "No, I had some visitors at home that delayed me a bit. I'm in my room now; do you want to video chat?"
Since she hadn’t replied for quite some time, Wu Rong had likely moved on to other things, so Rao Jie didn’t receive an immediate response.
Rao Jie decided to practice her English instead. Her English skills were quite good; her listening and speaking abilities were decent as well. She had passed all the necessary exams and received her transcripts, so studying abroad was not an issue. However, she wanted to practice even more thoroughly because language skills require continuous practice to master.
She pulled out her study materials from when she prepared for her graduate entrance exams, focusing on English while also reading up on basic pastry-making knowledge. During the day, she had to prepare her thesis and work part-time, leaving her with little free time.
After reading for a while, her phone vibrated.
Rao Jie quickly picked it up to check.
Wu Rong: "Who is it?"
Rao Jie was momentarily taken aback; after glancing at what she had sent earlier, she realized Wu Rong was asking about the visitors at her house.
Initially wanting to keep it a secret, she felt it wouldn’t be right to hide it and decided to be honest instead.
She thought Wu Rong might get angry or upset about it. However, Wu Rong simply replied with two words:
"Come down."
Rao Jie was stunned for a moment; after processing the message, she jumped up in surprise and rushed to the window to look downstairs.
Sure enough, she spotted a familiar vehicle parked below.
Her heart leaped with joy; such a surprise visit was definitely heart-melting for a girl.
Excitedly, Rao Jie turned around and prepared to head out.
There was a knock on her door, followed by it being opened without her consent. Rao Jie frowned as she saw Hu Ze standing in the doorway. Her expression immediately soured.
After all, this was her room—a girl's room. How could he just barge in without permission? Hu Ze clearly had issues with his character. Noticing her intention to leave, he raised an eyebrow and said, "What’s this? Are you planning to come out and talk? I still want to speak with you privately here."
Rao Jie snorted coldly and replied, "Please leave."
"Why should I?" Hu Ze responded with a cocky grin, as if he were brimming with confidence.
Rao Jie decided not to engage further; Wu Rong was waiting for her downstairs. She moved to exit, but Hu Ze blocked the doorway, preventing her from leaving.
Frustrated, Rao Jie glared at him and said, "Please move aside."
"I won’t," Hu Ze replied with a smile.
Rao Jie resorted to threats. "If you don’t let me go, I’ll scream. Then both our families will know why I don’t want to be with you."
But Hu Ze countered with his own threat. "Are you trying to ruin both families' relationships and your brother's future?"
After what had happened last time, Rao Jie no longer cared about Rao Jian's fate. She didn’t waste any more words on Hu Ze and shouted towards the living room, "Parents..."
