Wu Rong raised an eyebrow and said, "That's even better. The more people know, the less you can escape. Why not just post it on social media?"
Rao Jie laughed and replied, "Why not just post it directly in the little red book?"
As she spoke, she let go of Wu Rong and added, "It's already quite late. Please take me home; I need a good night's sleep so I can be in great spirits for the photos tomorrow." However, Rao Jie was unsure if she would be able to sleep tonight.
Wu Rong checked the time and saw it was already eleven o'clock, so he didn't insist any longer and returned to the front to drive. Rao Jie quickly shared the explosive news with her close friends. However, it was too late for Wu Xin to respond, while Wei Qian surprisingly dropped her usual calm demeanor and became excited instead. She didn't bother texting and called directly to express her congratulations.
Wu Rong dropped Rao Jie off at the foot of the stairs. After watching her go upstairs, he returned to the car and opened his bag, where his identification quietly lay inside. He had kept it with him since Rao Jie moved out, and tomorrow it would finally come in handy.
After tidying up, he happily drove back home but couldn't resist stopping at a shop still open along the way to get a haircut.
Meanwhile, when Rao Jie got home, she couldn't suppress her smile, which immediately raised her family's suspicions.
"Why were you gone so long? What happened? Did you win the lottery or something?" Huang Xiang asked in confusion.
Rao Jie shook her head and replied, "It's nothing; I was just out for a walk. It's late now; you all should get some rest. I'll be going to bed soon too."
Huang Xiang nodded and said, "Make sure to rest early and don't make too much noise; Xiao Hu is resting at our place!"
Rao Jie paused while pouring water, puzzled. "What? Hu Ze is resting at our house?"
"Yeah, he drank too much while hanging out with your brother and couldn't go back, so he just slept here in your brother's room. Don't disturb him, okay?"
Rao Jie felt a strange sensation in her heart but had no choice but to nod in agreement. However, having a strange man in the house made her feel somewhat awkward, so she became extra cautious while showering and even dressed neatly afterward. She hurriedly filled her cup with water and took it back to her room, planning not to come out again.
Once back in her room, she double-checked that the door was locked securely. Just as she was about to sleep, her phone suddenly rang.
It was Wu Xin insisting on a video call with her. With no other option, Rao Jie sacrificed some precious sleep time to accompany her on video chat but worried about making too much noise outside, so she put on headphones.
"What? No flowers? No ring? No romantic proposal scene? You just agreed like that? Jie Jie, can't you have a little more ambition? Can’t you resist my brother's charm a bit more? A woman's once-in-a-lifetime romantic proposal—are you really going to let my brother off so easily? He has no emotional intelligence; can't you consider that?"
"I know..." Rao Jie chuckled lightly but suddenly felt a dryness in her throat. She had just had some water; why did her voice sound a bit hoarse?
Although she was lying in bed under the covers, it shouldn't be this hot at this time of year.
Rao Jie couldn't help but lift the blanket, letting the heat dissipate. She had placed her phone on the bedside but hadn't managed to hold onto it; the sound continued to play.
