Wu Xin was still complaining, and after half a day without seeing Rao Jie, she asked, “Where is she?”
“I feel a bit hot; let me fan myself… Don’t talk about your brother; aren’t you his little sister? Isn’t this a bit ungrateful?”
“Don’t worry, I’m definitely the most supportive sister-in-law! Huh? What’s wrong with your voice? It sounds weak; don’t get sick now, tomorrow is a big day,” Wu Xin said with a laugh.
Rao Jie replied helplessly, “I’m fine; I just suddenly feel a bit strange. I guess it’s too stuffy in here. Honestly, it’s a shame about the scenes you designed; you should keep them for yourself. I don’t need them as long as we can be together smoothly.”
Wu Xin clicked her tongue and said, “What luck does my brother have to find a wife with no demands? Marrying you is way too easy! Our Wu Family has really struck gold. I need to tell my parents; they’ll be over the moon!”
Rao Jie asked with some concern, “Do you think our parents will be upset if we go ahead and do this without telling them first?”
“No, no, it should be our parents. Don’t worry; they’ll only be concerned that my brother might never find someone. If one day he shows up with a marriage certificate and his wife in front of them, I’m sure they’ll be ecstatic. The level of happiness would definitely warrant calling an ambulance!”
Rao Jie wanted to laugh at Wu Xin’s exaggeration, but as soon as she did, her body trembled slightly, and it felt very strange. She even made an odd sound.
Wu Xin paused, confused. “Jie Jie, are you feeling unwell?”
Rao Jie’s voice involuntarily took on a whiny tone. “I don’t know what’s wrong. I’ve felt really hot since earlier, and my head feels a bit dizzy.”
Wu Xin exclaimed in shock, “No way! Are you sick? You might have a fever; hurry up and take some medicine!”
Rao Jie replied softly, “Wait for me; I’ll go find some medicine.”
As Rao Jie took off her headphones and prepared to get up, she found it strange that she couldn’t even support her own body. It felt as if her body was changing rapidly, and this change frightened her while her mind felt hazy.
Despite her efforts to prop herself up, Rao Jie’s body gave out completely and she collapsed back down.
Her phone lay flat on the bed, so Wu Xin couldn’t see anything but could only hear vague sounds. Since the phone was still plugged into the headphones, Rao Jie couldn’t hear Wu Xin speaking.
Rao Jie finally sensed something was wrong as a tingling sensation spread through her body, reminiscent of being with Wu Rong…
This sudden change was impossible for her to comprehend. She realized she couldn’t even call for help and could only make faint sounds.
Feeling her consciousness fading away, an instinctive urge to call for help forced her to whisper, “Wu Xin, I don’t feel right. I have no strength… I…”
The rest were incoherent sounds of distress that Wu Xin couldn’t decipher. After several attempts to call out to Rao Jie without receiving any response, Wu Xin grew anxious. She feared Rao Jie might be suffering from some acute illness without anyone at home noticing.
In a hurry, Wu Xin grabbed a classmate's phone to make a call but realized she didn’t know Rao Jie’s home number. So she immediately dialed Wu Rong instead.
At that moment, Wu Rong had just finished getting his hair cut and was preparing to drive home.
It was strange to receive a call from an unfamiliar number from a foreign country. When I answered, I was surprised to find it was Wu Xin.
"Even if you want to congratulate me, you should consider the time difference here."
"Big Brother... it's bad. Rao Jie is sick."
