Wu Rong was startled. "What? What's wrong?"
"We were just chatting, and Rao Jie suddenly felt unwell. Now she can't make a sound, only making muffled noises. She can't even talk to me, and her phone is lying on the side. I can't see her, but from the sounds, it seems like she can't even call for help. No one must have noticed she's sick. You should contact her family or hurry over to check on her. I'm afraid she might have some kind of emergency!"
Wu Rong's heart tightened, and he immediately got into his car. He spoke while starting the engine. "I'm on my way right now."
Wu Xin was still holding two phones, chattering away as she reported the situation to Wu Rong while watching the video on her phone, listening intently to the sounds coming from the other end.
Suddenly, Wu Xin heard a faint click. It wasn't very clear, so she wasn't sure if it was the sound of a door opening. "Is... someone coming in? I think I heard a door open. Maybe her family found out something was wrong."
Wu Rong frowned at that moment, feeling displeased. "What kind of quality do her family members have? They just barge into someone else's room at night without knocking or asking for permission?"
Wu Xin was taken aback. "Maybe they noticed something was off with Rao Jie."
"You can't even hear anything; is their soundproofing that poor?" Wu Rong felt an inexplicable impatience and unease, pressing the accelerator harder.
Even though the roads were clear at midnight with no vehicles in sight, it still took time to reach there.
Wu Xin felt a bit choked by his words and found it strange; maybe she had misheard.
But just as Wu Xin was lost in thought, a scene suddenly appeared on the video—a strange man's face showed up on the screen.
Wu Xin's scalp tingled; given his posture and appearance, if she could see him in the video, it meant that he had already gotten onto Rao Jie's bed.
Wu Xin's sudden scream disrupted Wu Rong.
He could only hear Wu Xin frantically calling out Rao Jie's name and quickly shouted back, "Don't panic! What's going on?"
With terror in her voice, Wu Xin replied, "A strange man just entered Rao Jie's room and is already on her bed! Brother, this situation isn't right!"
Wu Rong's heart sank; he lost control for a moment and swerved onto the roadside greenery.
Meanwhile, outside the door stood Rao Jian, stealthily closing Rao Jie's bedroom door. Just then, Huang Xiang emerged from the bathroom and caught sight of him.
"What are you doing?" Huang Xiang asked in confusion as she approached, startling Rao Jian.
Although Rao Jian often did bad things, this was the first time he had harmed his sister in their own home. Being questioned by his mother made him feel guilty, causing his gaze to wander.
"Nothing."
Huang Xiang frowned and said, "What are you doing opening your sister's door?"
Rao Jian quickly replied, "Mom, you misunderstood. You should go back to sleep."
Huang Xiang looked a bit uneasily at Rao Jie's door.
However, Rao Jian stepped forward to push her away, and suddenly laughter came from inside the room.
Though it was muffled through the door, in the stillness of the night, Huang Xiang could still hear it.
She frowned immediately, glancing back at the doorway and then at Rao Jian.
Rao Jian's expression was firm as he insisted, "Mom, you really need to go back to sleep."
Huang Xiang couldn't help but say, "But... I think I heard..."
Rao Jian slowly narrowed his eyes and said, "Mom, you're being confused. There's no sound at all. I need to go back to sleep too. Don't just stand here; please go back."
