When the last person fell silently in the darkness, Fei Liuli finally let out a sigh of relief.
At that moment, a group of people lay sprawled on the ground, and in the distance, a rickshaw rattled slowly by.
She calmly tucked her gun back into her waistband and turned to look at the last person who had fallen. His unblinking eyes held an eerie glint.
With a helpless sigh, Fei Liuli knelt down and gently closed his eyes.
"How hypocritical." A mocking voice came from not far away, its tone sharp enough to pierce Fei Liuli's heart.
She forced a self-deprecating smile, shook her hair, and silently followed the footsteps of the newcomer.
"Young Master, Miss, you’re back! The steward is waiting for you in the study," said Uncle You Fa, the butler of the estate, as he saw Xiao Shaojin and Fei Liuli enter unscathed. The tension in his heart finally eased a bit.
" Uncle You Fa, how many times have I told you not to call her 'Miss'? Are your ears deaf?" Xiao Shaojin suddenly shouted, his voice causing Uncle You Fa to tremble involuntarily.
"She is not Tian Shu; only Tian Shu is your Miss. This person is no different from the servants in the house—just a maid."
Uncle You Fa raised his head, worry etched on his face as he stole a glance at Fei Liuli. She appeared calm and composed as she followed Xiao Shaojin upstairs, seemingly unaffected by the earlier humiliation.
A wave of pity surged within Uncle You Fa; this child truly had a hard life.
"Liuli, you did well. These spies infiltrated our estate early on, and if it weren't for your covert assistance, I wouldn't have known how to catch them all without raising suspicion."
Xiao Zijie looked at the list they had brought back, each name marked with a red cross, and his smile grew even brighter.
Fei Liuli was indeed an exceptional assistant; though she was a woman, she was no less capable than his own son. Adopting her had proven to be the right decision.
"Old man, I wasn't idle either! You don’t need to shower all your praises on this useless girl! What’s this? Planning to take another concubine this year?"
Xiao Shaojin shot an impatient glare at Fei Liuli, filled with displeasure.
"You have no idea what you're saying, you fool!" Even though Fei Liuli was present, such blasphemous words successfully enraged Xiao Zijie, turning his face red with anger.
Xiao Shaojin, however, appeared unfazed. He looked as if he might have charged at his father to teach him a lesson if Fei Liuli hadn't stopped him. He stretched his limbs, preparing to leave.
As he passed by Fei Liuli, he coldly commanded, "Since that's the case, then he clearly has no intention. Fei Liuli, you will come to my room later. Do you understand?"
There was not a hint of seeking her opinion in his tone; it was an undeniable command.
"Liuli, I'm sorry. This child, Shaojin, I truly..."
Xiao Zijie's weathered face was etched with helplessness and heartache as tears of sorrow streamed down.
Fei Liuli gently shook her head and offered him a reassuring smile before striding away.
Outside the window, the night had deepened.
It was she who had promised long ago that no matter when or where she was needed, she would always appear.
Fei Liuli quietly approached Xiao Shaojin's door, discreetly hiding the tears that threatened to spill from her eyes. She raised her hand and softly knocked on the door.
The door opened a crack, and she immediately caught sight of the disdainful look on Xiao Shaojin's face within.
But there was nothing she could do; after all, this was the man she loved wholeheartedly.
Fei Liuli walked slowly and heavily to the bedside as usual, gently removing her thin shirt.
Her creamy skin gradually revealed itself to the air, and she lowered her head slightly, already faintly hearing Xiao Shaojin's breathing becoming heavier behind her.
The sight of her fair skin tinged with pink filled Xiao Shaojin's eyes instantly. He instinctively clenched his fists and then leaned forward without hesitation.
As expected by Fei Liuli, another round of turmoil ensued late into the night.
