Qin Wan'er took a step back, her eyes filled with sadness and despair. "Brother, you... you’re not trying to deceive me and sell me again, are you?" 0

Qin Feng looked at the little girl, his heart tightening painfully. He cursed his master silently for being such a scoundrel, and tried to soften his expression. "Sister, this time it’s just that I’ve lost my mind. Don’t take it seriously. I swear, I will never sell you again." 0

A glimmer of hope appeared in Qin Wan'er’s eyes; she had no one else left. Cautiously, she walked over to Qin Feng and gently grasped a bit of his clothing. "Brother, I will definitely be obedient. Please, don’t leave me. I... I’m so scared and it’s so dark." 0

Qin Feng's eyes reddened slightly; he felt he was committing a sin. He reached out and picked her up in his arms. "From now on, I won’t leave you behind. You are my dear sister." 0

"Wow, brother!" Qin Wan'er exclaimed as she realized she was being held by Qin Feng. She had never been embraced like this before, and all her pent-up feelings of grievance suddenly burst forth. She leaned on his shoulder and began to cry heartily until she fainted. 0

Qin Feng quickly checked her condition; thankfully, there was nothing serious—she was just exhausted and couldn’t hold on any longer. He turned to give Chen Yuanwai a meaningful glance before striding out. 0

Once Qin Feng had completely left, Chen Yuanwai revealed a sinister glint in his eyes. "Damn it, just a poor scholar anyway. I want you dead." With that, he turned and walked in a certain direction. 0

It was a dimly lit room with white candles burning and an altar set up inside, giving it an eerie atmosphere. "Liu Daozhang, I want to kill someone—no, two people," Chen Yuanwai's voice echoed. 0

"Oh? Who has angered you so much?" the Old Taoist asked curiously as he sat down. 0

"Weren't you supposed to have killed that scholar? How is he still alive and kicking? Today he even came to my house!" Chen Yuanwai complained as he recalled something. 0

"Hmm? Still alive? That’s impossible!" The Old Taoist looked taken aback. 0

Suddenly, his expression changed. He reached out and took a jar from the Altar. Upon opening it, his face darkened. 0

"Hasn't he returned? Something must have happened," he said. 0

"What’s wrong?" Chen Yuanwai quickly asked. 0

"I sent a ghost to deal with that Xiu Cai, but it hasn't come back. Either it was destroyed by someone, or it was taken away by other demons," Old Taoist replied in a deep voice. 0

"Is there really no expert in our county? Could it be demons?" Chen Yuanwai, forgetting about Qin Feng, turned pale. 0

"I'm not sure. Here’s what we’ll do: tonight, I’ll send another ghost over. If it returns, that means everything is fine. If it doesn’t come back again, we’ll have to inform the County Magistrate," Old Taoist said seriously. 0

"Alright, I’ll follow your lead," Chen Yuanwai said, trembling with fear. 0

Qin Feng, carrying Qin Wan'er, stopped by to buy some meat and rice on the way home. He also left a few taels of silver behind, which would be enough for now. 0

As soon as he reached the door, Zhang Bo spotted Qin Feng holding Qin Wan'er and immediately broke into a smile. 0

"Qin Xiucai, you really brought Wan'er back!" 0

Qin Feng chuckled, "Yes, Zhang Bo. Now you can make those steamed buns for us." 0

Zhang Bo nodded repeatedly, "Of course! From now on, I’ll save some for you every morning." 0

Qin Feng laughed again and pushed the door open, gently placing Qin Wan'er on the bed. 0

He stepped outside to take a look at the yard. It wasn’t large; in the center stood a big tree. Beneath it, a stone table seemed to have been overturned, causing him to frown. 0
