"Where should we eat?" Lu Jing asked after fastening Sang Yu's seatbelt.
At this time, it was too early for dinner, and given the weather, Sang Yu didn't want to go out again after getting home. "How about my place? I can cook for you. I have plenty of ingredients in the fridge, so it would be better to eat at home. Plus, we won't have to go out afterward."
"Sounds good! I haven't had your cooking in days," Lu Jing nodded in agreement. He enjoyed Sang Yu's cooking and appreciated the chance for the two of them to be alone together.
"Do we need to stop by the supermarket for groceries?" Lu Jing asked as they passed by one.
Sang Yu shook her head. "No need, I have enough at home."
Due to the snow, the roads were congested, and everyone was driving slowly. What usually took them about ten minutes took over half an hour today. By the time they got home, it was nearly five o'clock, and the sky was starting to darken.
The house was warm with underfloor heating, maintaining a temperature of around twenty-seven or twenty-eight degrees Celsius. The two of them took off their down jackets. Sang Yu changed into a light autumn loungewear set; usually, she wore summer pajamas at home, but with Tian Lu Jing around, she felt a bit shy.
Lu Jing's outfit wasn't thick either; he wore a light blue shirt on top and autumn pants underneath his dress pants, so he felt comfortable after removing his jacket.
"What do you want to eat?" Sang Yu asked while tying her hair back.
"Anything is fine; I like everything you make." He wasn't picky about food—except for cilantro; he really couldn't stand its taste. Sang Yu, on the other hand, loved it.
Sang Yu opened the fridge to check what they had. She thought they could have hot pot—she had enoki mushrooms, oil wheat lettuce, and wide noodles. There were also frozen beef rolls and hot pot balls from her last grocery run. She often made hot pot at home, so she had all the necessary ingredients. Plus, hot pot was perfect for a snowy day.
"Hot pot?" she suggested.
"Sure! That sounds great," Lu Jing replied.
Having hot pot was convenient; it saved Sang Yu from having to cook extensively. The only hassle would be washing the dishes afterward, but Lu Jing offered to help with that, showing his willingness to pitch in.
The two of them washed the vegetables together and arranged everything neatly on the coffee table.
As Sang Yu watched Lu Jing standing tall in her living room, she found herself lost in thought again. She had never considered her apartment small until now; somehow, with Lu Jing there, it felt cramped. When Lin Yue visited, it never felt crowded at all. Was it just because Lu Jing took up more space?
"So, what do you want to drink? Do you want some alcohol?" Although they often shared meals lately, Sang Yu still felt a bit nervous whenever they were alone together.
Lu Jing glanced at her and realized that Yu Bao wanted him to stay tonight.
Sang Yu's eyes widened in surprise. "Wait! When did I say I wanted you to stay?"
"You... you... don't say things like that! I never said I wanted you to stay!"
Lu Jing raised an eyebrow playfully. "Isn't it obvious? You offer me drinks because you want me to stay longer. Otherwise, how would I drive after drinking?"
"Forget what I said! Just drink soda!" Sang Yu quickly grabbed a bottle from the fridge and placed it in front of Lu Jing. How could she forget he drove here? Was she being absent-minded?
Outside, snowflakes danced in the air while inside, the two of them enjoyed a steaming hot pot together—a warm and beautiful scene indeed.
