Sang Yu looked at Sang with a mix of disbelief and amusement. How could he be getting more childish as he aged? "Alright, listen," she said, "there's still more than half a month left until the kids' engagement. Stop causing trouble."
Sang, feeling a bit wronged, replied, "Wife, how can you side with that kid? The kids' engagement is already set in stone. Why do you keep meddling? Besides, Jing Zhi is actually quite good when you set aside the past. He’s young and accomplished, and his family background is decent. Just look at the way he looks at our Da Bao; it’s as if he can’t take his eyes off her!"
Sang huffed softly, not saying much more but reluctantly acknowledging that his wife had a point.
Sang Yu glanced at him and continued, "I understand you’re reluctant to let go of our daughter and still hold some reservations about Jing Zhi because of what happened before. But both of them were young then; they didn’t handle things well. Now they’ve grown up and matured. I believe they know what they want. I think the two kids will be fine together, so let’s not worry about it."
"Getting married early means having children early, which is better for our Da Bao’s health too. You don’t know how often Teacher Li from my office brags about his grandson; it makes me envious! His kid is the same age as our Da Bao and got married right after graduating from college."
"In a couple of years, I’ll be retired, and when they have kids, I can help take care of them." Sang Yu was already daydreaming about life after having grandchildren.
The more Sang listened, the more excited he became at the thought of having a chubby little grandchild calling him 'Grandpa.' The idea made him incredibly happy. "No way! After their engagement, we need to rush them into marriage; no one can delay my chance to hold my grandchild!"
He chased after Sang Yu, faintly hearing her voice calling out, "Wife! Wife! Get our calendar out; let’s pick a date for their wedding so we don’t miss out on holding our grandchild!"
Sang Yu replied teasingly, "The engagement isn’t even set yet, and you’re already thinking about grandchildren? Isn’t that a bit premature?"
Lu Jingzhi held one of Sang Yu's hands while using the other to steer the wheel.
Sang Yu looked at her hand tightly held by him and tried to pull it away but found it impossible due to his grip. "Let go! You’re driving; loosen your hold!" she said helplessly.
Lu Jingzhi was more than willing to comply; he even leaned over to kiss her hand. "No way! Before, your father treated me like a thief trying to get close to his precious daughter. Now that I’ve finally escaped his watchful eye, I’m going to enjoy this freedom."
"Let go quickly or I’ll get angry!" Sang Yu threatened playfully. "It’s dangerous to drive with one hand."
Under her playful threat, Lu Jingzhi finally released her hand and obediently focused on driving.
Sang Yu turned her head, resting her chin on her left hand as she watched Lu Jingzhi. The current version of him completely overturned all her previous impressions—childish, shameless, and brazen—traits that had nothing to do with him before now seemed perfectly fitting.
Feeling a bit uncomfortable under her gaze, Lu Jingzhi asked nervously, "What’s wrong? Is there something on my face?"
Sang Yu shook her head.
"Then why do you keep staring at me?" he asked.
"I just feel like you’re very different now compared to when I first met you," she replied.
Lu Jingzhi perked up at this comment. "Oh? How am I different?"
Sang Yu imagined how he used to be—carefree yet somewhat aloof, with an air of arrogance that made him seem infuriatingly unapproachable. She chuckled as she recalled Lin Yue had said similar things about Lu Jingzhi more than once.
Lu Jingzhi's arrogant demeanor makes one want to give him a good beating.
