"Darling, it's time to get up." Lu Jingzhi whispered softly in Sang Yu's ear, his voice hoarse from just waking up.
"I'm tired; let me sleep a little longer." Sang Yu turned over, facing away from Lu Jingzhi.
"Aren't we supposed to go to Grandma's today? It's already seven o'clock. Are you sure you want to sleep a bit more?" Today was Sunday, and since Lu Jingzhi had never been to Sang Yu's countryside home before, they had planned to visit Sang's grandpa and Sang's grandmother this weekend as their wedding date was approaching.
A moment later.
"It's all your fault!" Sang Yu opened her eyes, glaring at the still-energetic Lu Jingzhi with her bleary gaze, feeling a bit annoyed. He was the one who had put in the effort last night; why was she the one struggling to get up? Was there really such a big difference in stamina between men and women?
"It's my fault! It's all my fault!" Lu Jingzhi said without any sincerity, knowing full well he wouldn't change his ways regarding this matter. "But sweetheart, we really should get up."
"Hmph! Men are all big pigs!" Sang Yu retorted.
The two quickly got out of bed, finished breakfast, and set off.
"Hello, Grandma."
"Da Bao, where are you? Sang's grandmother has been waiting at home and is getting a bit anxious."
Sang Yu glanced at the navigation. "We're almost there, Grandma. We still have half an hour."
"Tell Xiao Lu not to rush; Nana is waiting for you at home." Sang's grandmother hung up the phone happily and instructed, "Eldest son, hurry up and brew some tea; Da Bao and the others will be here in half an hour."
Since yesterday, when Sang's grandmother learned that her granddaughter would be bringing her grandson-in-law over, she had immediately called Uncle Sang and Sang San Shu to come over and clean up the house.
"Mom, is it really that dirty? Didn't we just clean for the New Year? It's only been a little over a month." Uncle Sang was standing on a stool wiping the windows.
"Exactly, Mom. If he’s coming over, so what? Our house isn’t dirty. Do we really need to clean just for him? He already took away his niece; giving him a cold shoulder is enough. Why does it have to be such a grand affair?"
"Just clean as I told you! Where do you get off talking back?" Sang's grandmother stood in the yard supervising them. "Make sure it’s spotless; this is my grandson-in-law's first visit. If it’s not clean enough, watch out—I’ll hit you with my stick!"
Uncle Sang and Sang San Shu exchanged glances:
"Does this old lady have to be so ruthless? We’re all grown men here; do we really need our mother chasing us around with a stick? How embarrassing! It’s all that brat’s fault!"
Lu Jingzhi thought to himself: "Am I just adding more hatred for myself?"
"Hurry up! We still need to go into town later to buy some vegetables and meat." Sang's grandmother shot an exasperated glance at her two sons. At their age, they should be more efficient instead of dragging their feet like this. After saying that, she turned to look at the old man sitting in the yard smoking. "Smoke away! Just keep smoking all day long; why don’t you smoke yourself to death?"
Sang's grandpa wondered how he had gotten caught in this crossfire. He hadn’t done anything wrong; he decided it was best to avoid provoking her further. With that thought in mind, he quickly left the yard.
Uncle Sang and Sang San Shu couldn’t help but laugh at their father’s retreating figure.
"What are you laughing at? Have you finished your work or what? Don't you see what time it is?"
Uncle Sang and Sang San Shu's laughter abruptly ceased. Is their mother going through menopause again? Why is her temper getting worse?
"The scenery in your hometown is quite nice!"
