As they laughed and joked, they fed Wu Rong together, their sweet and affectionate demeanor filling the room with warmth. The delivery person who came in to bring their meal left with a heart full of dog food, witnessing their intimate moment.
After finishing their meal, it was already past nine in the evening. The couple took a taxi back to their apartment. However, when Rao Jie entered the password to unlock the door, Wu Rong stopped her.
"Shouldn't the husband carry his wife over the threshold on the first night of marriage?" he teased.
Rao Jie paused, her hand frozen on the door handle as she looked at Wu Rong's right hand with amusement. "I don't know where you heard that rule, but I certainly don't want my... husband to end up in the hospital on our wedding night because his arm got hurt."
Wu Rong's eyes lit up. "Say it again; I want to hear it."
Initially wanting to play it cool and act nonchalant, Rao Jie couldn't help but blush when Wu Rong brought it up.
"I won't say it," she replied shyly.
Wu Rong squinted at her playfully. "Hmph, there will be a time later when you'll have to call me that, and it will sound even sweeter."
His implication made Rao Jie blush even more as she attempted to reach for the door again. But Wu Rong continued to block her path. "I may not be able to carry you in, but I can certainly give you a piggyback ride! Come on, hop on!"
Seeing Wu Rong turn around and squat down with his back facing her ignited her youthful heart. She initially thought to refuse but reconsidered; she didn't want to miss out on this little moment of happiness.
So, following Wu Rong's lead, Rao Jie climbed onto his back.
"Alright, let's open the door," he said with a smile.
With Rao Jie on his back, she pushed the door open. But as soon as the door swung wide, she sensed something was off—the room was filled with light.
When the door was fully opened, Rao Jie was stunned. The room was adorned with romantic pink and white balloons and blue-purple streamers that decorated a path leading from the entrance to Wu Rong's room. Along the way were arranged electronic candles, creating a breathtaking scene.
The electronic candles were surrounded by full red roses, and the path leading up to them was covered in white rose petals, making it feel like a journey into Eden.
As if perfectly timed, elegant music began playing as soon as they opened the door, enveloping the atmosphere in romance.
"This... what is this..."
Rao Jie was utterly astonished.
Wu Rong carried Rao Jie on his back, step by step, towards his room.
"Getting the marriage certificate so hastily, at least for tonight's wedding ceremony, I hope it can bring you a bit of joy. So I asked Ye Ming to come early and decorate the place," he said.
Though Rao Jie couldn't see Wu Rong's face, she could imagine the tenderness that adorned it at that moment. She had no idea how he had gradually learned to do these things for her; all she knew was that each change in Wu Rong moved her deeply. It wasn't that she was easily satisfied, but rather that it was incredibly difficult for Wu Rong to change.
Perhaps most of the changes in Wu Rong's life were made for her sake.
Feeling a surge of emotion, Rao Jie wanted to cry, but it certainly wasn't the right time for tears. So she blinked back the moisture in her eyes and held back her tears as she took in everything in the room from Wu Rong's back; this was their wedding night.
"Open the door!"
At Wu Rong's reminder, Rao Jie opened the door to his room.
The lights were off in Wu Rong's room. Instead, various shapes made of electronic candles provided soft illumination. Although not as bright as regular lights, they perfectly set the mood, creating a warm and intimate atmosphere.
