In a long-abandoned mansion, a group of men in black had captured Yue Se Qing and Princess Lei, keeping them confined within its walls.
Yue Se Qing was well aware of the origins of these black-clad figures and had already stationed his own people outside the estate. However, his men were distracted by Princess Lei's absurd "rescue" act, and with him carrying the unconscious princess, they became vulnerable, allowing the black-clad men to seize the opportunity and capture them both.
Just moments ago, seizing the chance when the guards opened the door to deliver food, Yue Se Qing had dealt with the lookout at the entrance.
He initially planned to escape with Princess Lei but realized that if he left, they would surely pursue him relentlessly. Thus, he decided to wait for Miss Thunder to awaken before escorting her to safety.
As he leaned closer to check if she was awake, he suddenly heard her murmur, "How disgusting."
All those pleasant and unpleasant memories surged back into his mind.
Those memories were all tied to one woman—the same woman who had always resided in his heart, never leaving. And now, that woman was right in front of him, yet she remembered nothing.
He withdrew his hand, his gaze softening. Then, as if recalling something, he reached for a handful of mud nearby and gently smeared it across her delicate face.
Perhaps startled by the coolness on her skin, Princess Lei suddenly opened her eyes in her sleep, meeting Yue Xiao Neng Cao's gaze that held a teasing smile.
She let out a sharp gasp and sat up abruptly. "Lord Yue? What are you doing here? This princess hasn't even prepared herself! Ah... where is this place? It's so dirty and smelly. Could it be that this princess has been kidnapped...?"
"My princess is exceedingly beautiful at this moment; there is no need for preparation," Yue Xiao Neng Cao replied sincerely as he looked at Princess Lei's muddy face. "As for your second question, yes, you have indeed been kidnapped. But there is no need to fear; they came for me and should not harm you. I have already dealt with the guard at the door. We must leave quickly; reinforcements will arrive soon."
No sooner had he spoken than there was a noise at the door—someone was approaching.
Yue Se Qing's expression turned serious in an instant. He scooped up Princess Lei and pushed her out of the window.
The window was not high, and outside lay a patch of wild grass that would not hurt a person if they fell onto it. However, Princess Lei refused to leave after getting back on her feet.
"This Princess will not leave. I cannot abandon you and run away alone like a coward... Yue Se Qing, if we are to go, we go together," she declared.
Her gaze was sincere, and her tone resolute; perhaps this was the most reliable thing she had ever said in her life.
Though, with mud smeared across her face, she appeared somewhat comical.
"I can hold them off for a while longer. Your chances of escape will be greater if you leave now. Do not be stubborn, Princess; hurry and go," Yue Xiao Neng Cao urged as he closed the window.
To his surprise, Princess Lei found an old stool from somewhere and climbed up on it, perching herself at the window like a rogue. She shouted at Yue Xiao Neng Cao, "If you don’t go, then I won’t go either!"
Yue Se Qing sighed in resignation and had no choice but to jump down from the window with her.
This moment of camaraderie would come at a terrible cost.
They were soon surrounded by men in black. Yue Se Qing fought valiantly against the odds, battling through countless rounds until he finally broke free, seizing a swift horse to make their escape.
However, he sustained a deep sword wound on his shoulder that exposed bone.
Holding Princess Lei in his arms as they rode away, she could feel warmth spreading across her back; it was already soaked with blood.
The dilapidated house was located in a small town not far from the imperial city, but the roads were rugged and mountainous with no direct paths available, forcing them to take a long detour. Even with a fast horse, it would take half a day to reach safety. Reluctantly, to evade their pursuers, Yue Se Qing abandoned the horse and led Princess Lei into the dense forest.
The forest was teeming with mosquitoes and wildlife, making conditions harsh. With his injuries weighing him down, Yue Se Qing struggled through the night and eventually developed a high fever.
Princess Lei, accustomed to being pampered, found herself in a dire situation where neither heaven nor earth would respond to her pleas. Frustrated to the point of tears, she momentarily forgot her royal demeanor and beauty. With a determined roll of her sleeves, she hoisted Yue Xiao Neng Cao and rushed towards the stream.
By the water's edge, she carefully cleaned his wounds, tearing a strip of clean satin from her own clothing to make a simple bandage.
Then, she cupped some water from the stream and brought it to Yue Xiao Neng Cao's lips.
However, he was feverish and dazed, his jaw clenched tightly, making it impossible for him to drink. After several attempts with no success, desperation set in for Princess Lei. Reluctantly, she took the water into her own mouth and fed it to him mouth-to-mouth.
Although Princess Lei often acted recklessly, this was her first experience sharing such an intimate moment with a man.
Yue Se Qing's lips were soft and warm, carrying a unique fragrance. The sensation felt almost like a kiss... It was surprisingly pleasant.
The thought of "kiss" made Princess Lei's cheeks flush crimson.
She was clearly taking advantage of the situation but found herself justifying her actions, feeling noble for sacrificing her first kiss to care for a patient.
After feeding him one mouthful of water, she couldn't resist giving him another, becoming increasingly addicted to the act.
She continued until poor Yue Xiao Neng Cao, overwhelmed by the water while still feverish and unconscious, finally stirred awake. Only then did Princess Lei cease her "noble" endeavor of hydration.
