Wife was very angry, and the consequences were severe.
Yao Niansi rushed out of the house with her hair disheveled, hands on her hips, shouting in the courtyard, “Yun Sheng, get out here!”
“I’m right here.” A weak voice suddenly came from behind her.
Startled, Yao Niansi turned around to see Yun Sheng curled up in a corner. She said irritably, “Why are you squatting at the door? Hurry up and go to sleep!”
At that moment, Yun Sheng looked lonely, his whole body huddled in the corner. “I don’t want to sleep,” he replied.
“You left home without a word and still say you don’t want to sleep!” Yao Niansi was even more furious at this point. She stepped closer, pointing at Yun Sheng. “Do you know I searched for you for three whole days?”
If it hadn’t been for the innkeeper’s assistant coming to tell her that Yun Sheng had returned, Yao Niansi would have almost gone to the authorities to report him missing.
Originally, she had planned to scold Yun Sheng when she returned, but seeing his vacant eyes and pale face made her unable to voice her anger. Plus, after three days without sleep, she felt quite exhausted and decided to let him be as she hurried back to her room for some rest.
To her surprise, there was a huge “surprise” waiting for her in the room that completely wiped away her drowsiness.
“Tell me! What’s going on with that man lying naked on my bed?” Yao Niansi demanded angrily.
Yun Sheng hugged his knees and didn’t even lift his eyelids, but his voice was filled with deep grievance. “I already know.”
“Huh?”
“You married me because you wanted to have a son.” Yun Sheng buried his head in his knees and muttered, “I heard what you said to waiter.”
Yao Niansi fell silent for a moment without answering.
Yun Sheng continued, “But I can’t let you have children. Please don’t drive me away.”
Yao Niansi couldn't help but feel a mix of amusement and exasperation as she pointed at the man sleeping in the room. "So you ran away from home just to bring a man back for me?"
Yun Sheng awkwardly replied with a "hm," but then suddenly lifted his head, determination shining in his eyes. "But he can only give you sons; your Husband is still me!"
Heaven knows what kind of internal struggle Yun Sheng had gone through to convince himself of this.
He didn't want Yao Niansi to be with anyone else, and he especially didn't want her to leave him because he couldn't give her children. After much deliberation, he had made this decision.
"You really are hopelessly foolish!" Yao Niansi kicked the door in frustration, yet her heart inexplicably warmed.
Perhaps this ancient life wasn't as terrible as she had imagined.
The matter concluded with Yao Niansi secretly sending the unnamed man back home late at night.
Yun Sheng tried hard to suppress his bubbling joy and casually asked, "Aren't you going to have sons with him?"
Yao Niansi shot him a glance. "Hmm, the person you picked is too ugly; I need to find someone better looking."
Upon hearing this, Yun Sheng immediately drooped his head, falling silent.
Yao Niansi thought for a moment and added, "Next time, at least find someone like you."
She wouldn’t settle for anyone else.
Yun Sheng fell ill.
After running away from home for three days and then pestering Yao Niansi all night, he suddenly developed a high fever that lasted five days and nights.
Yao Niansi was frantic as she summoned the most renowned doctor in the village, only to be told that it was up to fate. Furious, she cursed loudly at the doctor’s retreating figure, calling him a quack.
Yun Sheng's handsome face was burned a deep red, and his once bright and spirited eyes now appeared dull and lifeless.
Beside him, Yao Erzi seemed to sense something was wrong and cried incessantly.
As if trouble came in waves, the innkeeper hurried back to announce that there had been changes regarding the competition for the Bai Family Head's heir, requiring all young ladies to return to Bai Residence immediately.
Yao Niansi understood that this sudden turn of events must be closely related to the Bai Family Matriarch; she must have whispered something in Bai Jinman's ear again.
In the past, Yao Niansi would have rushed to the Bai Family without hesitation, vowing not to rest until she reclaimed the position of Bai Family Head.
However, now she had no time for their games of intrigue; her mind was solely focused on Yun Sheng.
The innkeeper anxiously exclaimed, "Boss, are you really not going? This concerns the selection of the family head!"
Yao Niansi tightened her grip on Yun Sheng's trembling hand, her dark eyes filled with worry as she firmly declared, "No!"
The innkeeper, flustered, paced in circles. "If you don't become the family head, then you won't get that Dragon Pearl! You'll be stuck here for the rest of your life."
Yao Niansi looked at Yun Sheng, who had completely lost consciousness yet still clung tightly to her hand. After a moment of silence, she said, "A Hai, didn't you decide long ago not to go back?"
The innkeeper was taken aback, not expecting Yao Niansi to suddenly change the subject; he struggled to keep up with her train of thought.
