Gu Si Yi paid no mind to the others and returned on his own. He didn’t head straight back to the Gu Family but instead had the driver take him on a leisurely ride through the streets of Teikyo. He was certain that Gu Yang had already been brought into the Gu Family, and he found himself fantasizing about receiving some comfort from her.
He realized he had overestimated himself, thinking he could remain unaffected by the situation. The thought of that person moving into the Gu Family made it impossible for him to act as if nothing were happening. The image of Wu Yunyun began to resurface in his mind, and he couldn’t pinpoint when she had become so significant to him. Perhaps it was during those moments when she opened her heart to share trivial matters with him, or when she took the initiative to hold his hand. Maybe it was even before all that; regardless, the feeling of being so thoroughly understood by her was not pleasant.
On his way home, he made a decision.
Wu Yunyun waited for him on his route home. She had ordered a large bear costume online, which had just arrived yesterday. To perform the popular bear dance for him, she had spent all day preparing and finally recorded the video. Inside the costume, her bangs were damp with sweat, but she tirelessly danced again and again. In the end, she took off the headpiece and said into the camera, "Gu Si Yi, happy birthday!" The entire video lasted exactly fifty-two seconds.
When Gu Si Yi got out of the car, Wu Yunyun waved at him. "Gu Si Yi, you’re back!"
He nodded at her and noticed her damp hair. "Why is your hair wet?"
"I was tidying up a bit," Wu Yunyun replied. "How was your dinner?"
"I haven’t eaten yet," Gu Si Yi said instinctively upon seeing her expectant expression.
"Then how about I cook you a bowl of noodles in the Pan Hall Kitchen?"
The Pan Hall Kitchen was far from the servant's quarters, so at this hour, there was no need to worry about being discovered by his mother.
"Okay," Gu Si Yi agreed.
However, once he entered the side hall, he began to regret his decision. He had planned to hold her hand but had instead promised to let her make noodles for him. It was already ten o'clock at night, and Wu Yunyun only put a small amount of noodles in the pot. Once they were ready, she placed them in front of him.
"I didn’t want you to eat too much tonight," she said.
"Mm." Gu Si Yi looked at the bowl of noodles but didn’t pick up his chopsticks. He turned to Wu Yunyun and said, "Wu Yunyun, let’s start."
"What?" Wu Yunyun asked softly.
"We're not suitable, so let's just end it here," Gu Si Yi said seriously.
Wu Yunyun looked at the earnest expression on his face and realized he wasn't joking. She opened her mouth, wanting to ask him why, but no words came out. After a long pause, it seemed she finally understood. She softly replied, "Okay," and walked away.
Once she reached her room, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably. She never expected that things between them would come to such an abrupt halt. She thought, at least not today.
She had overthought it; he must have grown tired of her. Not wanting to indulge her any longer, he had decided to let her go.
Wu Yunyun picked up her phone and looked at the video she had intended to send him. Watching herself in the lively footage made her heart ache like a thousand needles. She pressed the delete button but hesitated to confirm it. After a moment of indecision, she ultimately chose to cancel.
This relationship felt like a dream, and now that dream had ended. The video was proof of her happiness. Selfishly, she decided to keep it and placed it in a private folder.
