When Gu Si Yi arrived at the bedroom, Wu Yunyun had already been helped to the bed by her sister. Seeing Gu Si Yi come in, she briefly explained a few things before leaving the room.
Wu Yunyun took a few deep breaths, feeling her stomach ease a bit. Gu Si Yi approached and picked her up without hesitation. "We're going to the hospital."
"Gu Si Yi, put me down! I'll be fine in a bit!" Wu Yunyun protested, kicking her legs. "Don't irritate me; I won't have the strength if you keep this up."
After hearing her, Gu Si Yi set her down, though he still couldn't fully relax. Wu Yunyun held her stomach and took a few deep breaths, explaining, "I just got a bit worked up earlier; I'll be fine once I calm down. Besides, I've never had stomach issues before; I'll be okay after a little rest."
"I still think we should call a doctor; you look unwell," Gu Si Yi insisted.
"What are we to each other? Why do you care about my business?" Wu Yunyun shot back. "Let me tell you, I'm fine. I just want to rest here; can you stop meddling?"
After she yelled at him, Gu Si Yi fell silent. Feeling a bit guilty herself, she started rubbing her stomach and stopped talking.
Gu Si Yi slowly walked out of the room. When he returned, he held a cup of warm water in his hand and offered it to Wu Yunyun. "Here, I got this for you."
"Thank you." Wu Yunyun had already felt much better and drank the warm water.
What followed was a long silence. After thinking for a moment, Wu Yunyun spoke first. "Gu Si Yi, did you pay my penalty fee?"
Gu Si Yi looked at her but didn't respond.
"I'll pay you back later, and you can include interest," Wu Yunyun said defiantly.
"That was my choice; you don't have to pay me back," Gu Si Yi replied with a slight smile. "Wu Yunyun, did you guess that I did this entirely because—"
"Because you made a bet with someone?" Wu Yunyun interrupted mockingly. "Last time, didn't you win?"
Suddenly feeling a tightness in his chest, Gu Si Yi realized that being looked at like that made it hard to breathe. He opened his mouth to apologize but couldn't find the words.
Was there no trust left between them?
However, one thing was clear: he would still make sure she paid back the penalty fee later. Seeing his hurt expression, Wu Yunyun didn't want to linger any longer and was the first to leave the room.
Afterward, she thought about it and realized that she was only able to shout at him because he owed her from back then. However, he surprisingly did not refute her, leaving her in a state of confusion.
Wu Yunyun did not tell Gu Si Yi and directly returned to Teikyo. She found an excuse to brush off Wu's Mother, who, seeing that she did not want to elaborate, did not press further. Wu Yunyun then shared her decision with her; she wanted to send out resumes and look for a job. She felt that her relationship with Gu Si Yi had soured, and she no longer wanted to shamelessly approach him.
Moreover, she needed to pay him back. She decided that while searching for a main job, she would ask Yu Chan to help her find some side work. When Wu Yunyun conveyed her thoughts to Yu Chan, Yu Chan immediately said, "I have a café under my name that needs a manager. You can come over!"
"Ah, you didn’t open a café just for me, did you?" Wu Yunyun asked quietly.
"Hahaha, Wu Yunyun, you’re overreacting! I’m just bored lately and wanted to learn something new. Although I have some startup capital, it’s still a self-sustaining venture."
Hearing this from Yu Chan put Wu Yunyun's mind at ease. "Then I’ll give it a try; I really don’t want to stay with the Gu Family any longer."
"What’s wrong? Did that guy with the surname Gu cause you trouble again?"
"It's complicated; let’s talk about it when we meet."
"But have you decided to give up on your previous profession? I remember you were quite hopeful about becoming a doctor."
"Yeah." At this point, Wu Yunyun felt somewhat helpless and could only say that their personalities were not suitable for each other.
"It’s okay, Wu Yunyun. Life is just a process of trial and error. There’s no absolute best solution; as long as you do what you’re supposed to do, that’s enough," Yu Chan comforted her.
"Mm, thank you, Xiao Chan." During her time of unemployment, Wu Yunyun pondered what kind of life would be worthy of all her years of effort. But no matter how much she thought about it, there was no conclusion.
Perhaps, as Yu Chan said, there was no need to seek the optimal solution; just living in the moment was already remarkable.
