Gu Si Yi brought Wu Yunyun back to the apartment.
Throughout the journey, Wu Yunyun remained quiet, her heart heavy with sorrow. Why did her mother have to say such hurtful things to her?
Once home, Gu Si Yi gently placed her on the sofa and went to the fridge to grab an ice pack before returning to her side. "Sweetheart, shall we apply this for a bit?" he said, holding her close and soothing her.
Wu Yunyun nodded obediently. Gu Si Yi carefully placed the ice pack on her left cheek. "Don't be sad, Wu Yunyun. Aunt Sun is just being stubborn; I will win her over with my actions!"
"What will you win her over with? Didn't you hear how she implied that I'm not good enough for you? Even if you stood there doing nothing, she would still think I don't deserve you."
This was what Wu Yunyun found most tragic; she had never received praise from her mother throughout her life. Even in her relationship with Gu Si Yi, she felt like she was being looked down upon as if it were something cheap.
"I really don't understand," she murmured.
"Sweetheart, even if she is your biological mother, as an adult, you have the right to make your own choices. Wu Yunyun, you have the right to choose someone who is more suitable for you. This includes your career, love life, and everything you desire. We shouldn't let others dictate our choices anymore, okay?"
"You’re the best!" Gu Si Yi said, kissing her tear-stained eyes and then her nose. "My dear, you're so kind. What will you do if someone bullies you in the future?"
"If you're here, I won't be bullied," Wu Yunyun pouted defiantly. Although she still felt a bit wronged, his words lifted her spirits.
"That's right! You're almost thirty; why should you let others decide for you?"
She wrapped her arms around Gu Si Yi's neck and playfully bit his Adam's apple. "Gu Si Yi, I’m claiming you!"
Gu Si Yi looked at her; moments ago she had been pitifully sad, but now she was full of sass and confidence. It seemed that comforting her was quite effective.
"I’m honored," he replied before leaning down to kiss her.
Wu Yunyun clutched his shirt as their lips intertwined. After a while, she released him, leaving his shirt wrinkled from where she had grasped it tightly.
Gu Si Yi gazed at her; this was his girl—charming and soft.
He brushed her nose gently and said, "I'll get you an ice cream. Be good, and once you eat it, it'll be all over."
"I want chocolate flavor," Wu Yunyun pleaded.
"Alright, I'll get you chocolate," Gu Si Yi replied as he opened the fridge and took out a chocolate cone.
He held it up to her lips and said, "Princess, please open your mouth."
Wu Yunyun giggled at his antics and opened her mouth to take a bite of the ice cream. The sweet flavor spread in her mouth as she leaned in and kissed him. "You should try some too."
Gu Si Yi slid his tongue into her mouth, savoring her taste. It was delicious. He felt a lingering desire as they finished the ice cream together.
Wu Yunyun's tongue tingled from the sweetness.
Gu Si Yi laughed; his girl was finally showing some of her old self in front of him. He was willing to indulge her, hoping she would completely open her heart to him.
"Gu Si Yi, I have something to show you," Wu Yunyun suddenly remembered the clothes she had bought with Yu Chan.
After purchasing them, she had hidden them deep in her closet and never taken them out. Back then, she had so many concerns—worried he might think she was too flashy or see her as a loose woman.
But now, she wanted to share it with him immediately because she knew that as long as it was from her, it would be fine.
"Gu Si Yi, as long as it's me."
