Afterward, Gu Si Yi increasingly sensed something unusual about Wu Yunyun. The more she smiled at him, the more he felt that she was planning to leave him.
On the weekend, Gu Si Yi invited Zhou Liao and the others to a bar, but Sun Xian was notably absent. They waited for a long time before Gu Si Yi finally voiced his concerns and asked, "What can I do to make her stay?"
Lu Xiaoqi leaned back on the sofa and asked Zhou Liao for his opinion. "If you ask me, just be honest with her and tell her that you can't live without her."
Gu Si Yi frowned. "She won't believe me; I've lied to her before." Since being with her, he had been trying hard to win her over through actions, believing that actions spoke louder than words in proving his love for her.
He Luan scoffed lightly. "That's easy to solve; just tie her up."
Gu Si Yi frowned deeper. "Your method is too violent."
Lu Xiaoqi patted He Luan's shoulder. "After all these years, you still haven't managed to win over your girl. That shows your approach isn't working."
He Luan squeezed his glass tightly, feeling unconvinced. "At least she's still by my side."
Lu Xiaoqi couldn't help but retort, "But right now, she's like a puppet on strings. Is that what you want to see?"
"What do you mean, Lu Xiaoqi? Do you still have feelings for her?" He Luan shot back.
"I'm not as boring as you think," Lu Xiaoqi replied. "I just want to say, don't wait until it's too late to regret it—just like Gu Si Yi is doing now."
He Luan was confident that such a day would never come. He had absolute faith in himself! She would never escape his control.
As an innocent bystander, Gu Si Yi shot a cold glare at Lu Xiaoqi. "If you can't speak sensibly, then shut up!"
But Lu Xiaoqi only laughed. "What’s wrong? Did I hit a nerve? Are you angry?"
Gu Si Yi downed a glass of alcohol and asked, "So what’s your solution?"
"My solution is simple: just let her go," Lu Xiaoqi said.
"Impossible!" Gu Si Yi immediately retorted without a second thought.
"Listen to me, your partner is clearly planning to leave you. Instead of trying to hold her back, why not let her go?"
Breaking up isn't such a big deal; after all, you two have already split once and got back together, right? You just need to keep her close.
Gu Si Yi fell silent. He envisioned the scenario in his mind but found it hard to accept. The thought of her wanting to break up made his heart feel like it was being crushed underfoot. But what if she really didn't want me anymore after the breakup?
"Just deal with it when the time comes," his friend said. "But I think there's a high chance you two will actually split."
Although Gu Si Yi had only met Wu Yunyun a few times, he could tell she was quite determined. Once she set her mind on something, no one could change it.
Furrowing his brow, Gu Si Yi picked up his glass and poured himself another drink. Was there really no other way?
In the end, it was Zhou Liao who brought him home. After Wu Yunyun opened the door, Zhou Liao helped Gu Si Yi onto the sofa. Rubbing the back of his head awkwardly, he apologized to her, "Sorry, sister-in-law. Gu Si Yi is in a bad mood and drank too much."
"It's fine," Wu Yunyun replied, just as she was about to ask why he was feeling down. But then she realized that perhaps he was acting this way to keep her from knowing.
A sense of unease began to spread within her.
Seeing Wu Yunyun's worried expression, Zhou Liao explained, "Don't think too much about it, sister-in-law. It's just a gathering among brothers."
"Okay," Wu Yunyun smiled at him.
After Zhou Liao left, Wu Yunyun took off Gu Si Yi's coat and planned to go to the kitchen to make him some hangover soup. Just then, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his embrace. "Don't leave me."
"Don't leave me," Gu Si Yi repeated pitifully, holding onto her tightly without letting go.
Wu Yunyun gently stroked his hair to comfort him. "Alright, I won't."
Gu Si Yi opened his bleary eyes and looked at her, pressing his handsome face against her hand as he murmured, "Baby, I love you."
Wu Yunyun felt her heart soften just a little bit.
"Say it again, what you just said," she coaxed him, her heartbeat racing as if it might stop at any moment.
"I love you." Gu Si Yi obediently repeated.
Tears streamed down Wu Yunyun's face as she cupped his cheeks. "I love you too."
The next day, Gu Si Yi woke up early. He propped his head up and let out a sigh.
Wu Yunyun was stirred awake by the noise and got up to massage his head. "Does it still hurt?"
He nestled into her embrace, feeling much more comfortable. After a moment, Gu Si Yi took her hand away and kissed it near his lips. "I feel much better."
Wu Yunyun held him tightly and casually asked, "Gu Si Yi, do you remember what you said last night?"
He covered his head with his hands; he rarely got drunk, and when he did, he couldn't recall what he had done.
Seeing that he couldn't remember, Wu Yunyun buried her face in his chest. "Alright, if you can't remember, then forget it."
"Was it something important?" Gu Si Yi asked.
Wu Yunyun rested against him and replied, "Not really."
For her, it was very important; for him, perhaps not so much.
