During the two months that Tian Mei was with Lu Xiaoqi, their relationship ended due to incompatible personalities. During those days, Tian Mei realized that Lu Xiaoqi was only attracted to her appearance; once the novelty wore off, he would inevitably suggest a breakup. After their separation, she felt indifferent. While they were together, she often found it difficult to understand his thoughts, which left her feeling exhausted.
Not long after their breakup, the high school entrance exams arrived, and they attended different schools, leading to a long period without any encounters. Their paths crossed again at Han Hanyue's birthday party. At that time, Han Hanyue was being held by He Luan, her face devoid of color. Tian Mei watched helplessly as her close friend suffered, feeling powerless to help. All she could do was seize the opportunity to offer her support and say some meaningless words of encouragement.
Having witnessed Han Hanyue's experience, Tian Mei had become much colder in temperament. She understood that not all relationships were positive; there were many that could be deemed terrible. Knowing her own nature, she refused to compromise for another man and gradually lost her expectations for love.
On this particular day, Lu Xiaoqi silently drank a lot of alcohol. Tian Mei had heard that his grandfather had fallen seriously ill and needed him to find someone to carry on the family line. After observing him for a while, she averted her gaze, feeling somewhat fortunate that her own family was not so rigid and allowed her the freedom to choose her own path in life.
Lu Xiaoqi also glanced at Tian Mei but felt nothing for her. To him, she was merely attractive; he wasn't fond of her personality. In his eyes, she was just a fiery little pepper, while he preferred someone more subdued. After a brief look, he turned his gaze away.
At the birthday party, a group of friends began playing Truth or Dare. The bottle soon landed on Tian Mei, and someone asked her if she had ever had a first time. She nodded, prompting an uproar from the crowd. Sun Xian patted Lu Xiaoqi on the shoulder with a teasing glint in his eye. "Wow, I wonder who will get the chance to date Miss Tian in the future," someone remarked.
Lu Xiaoqi shot a cold glance at the speaker; he found the comment distasteful—not because of Tian Mei herself but simply because he thought it was inappropriate. The bottle then turned to Lu Xiaoqi, who faced the same question. He said nothing and downed his drink.
The others exchanged glances, seemingly reading something from each other's eyes. Their looks toward Lu Xiaoqi and Tian Mei were filled with curiosity. Sun Xian recalled that Lu Xiaoqi had been under stress lately due to his grandfather's illness. Raised by Lu Ye Ye since childhood, he shared a deep bond with him; now that Lu Ye Ye was gravely ill and had this one request, Lu Xiaoqi felt compelled to fulfill it.
However, fate is not something that simply arrives on command, especially considering that Lu Xiaoqi has a cold demeanor that many girls find hard to endure. With this thought in mind, he decided to lend a hand.
Sun Xian quietly informed the waiter to add something to Lu Xiaoqi's drink. The waiter, having seen his fair share of high-profile events, understood the close relationship between Sun Xian and Lu Shao, and agreed without hesitation.
Later on, feeling bored, Lu Xiaoqi finished the drink in front of him. Sun Xian noticed it was about time and called over some others to join him. Tian Mei also wanted to leave but was held back by Sun Xian, who made an excuse to go to the restroom and asked her to keep an eye on his phone.
Sun Xian and she were not particularly close friends. Just as she was about to refuse, he strode away confidently. Tian Mei frowned as she sat down, instinctively sensing that nothing good would come of this.
Her intuition was soon confirmed when she saw Lu Xiaoqi unbuttoning his shirt, his face unusually flushed. Coming from a family that owned a bar, she had witnessed many drunken episodes and knew exactly what was happening with him. She just hadn’t expected Sun Xian to act so unpredictably.
Raising an eyebrow, she found herself unable to leave; instead, she quietly watched him. Lu Xiaoqi felt like he was losing his mind. He desperately tried to suppress himself, but it felt as if a fire was raging within him, growing stronger and pushing him closer to the brink of collapse.
He had noticed Tian Mei; he had been waiting for her to leave. But not only did she remain seated, she wore an expression akin to that of a bystander watching a spectacle unfold. He couldn’t take it any longer.
In a moment of impulse, he pulled her close and embraced her tightly. With her soft warmth enveloping him, he lost even more control and buried his head in her embrace.
Tian Mei was taken aback by the sudden turn of events. Feeling the heat radiating from this man stirred unexpected thoughts within her. Why wasn’t she leaving? Lu Xiaoqi gasped heavily; from the sound alone, it was clear how much he was struggling.
Tian Mei opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, he captured her lips with his own.
“Mmm…” Lu Xiaoqi. She found herself overwhelmed by his advances and instinctively leaned back against him.
“It’s me.” Lu Xiaoqi held her tightly but still felt it wasn’t enough; he craved more.
Dazed by his kiss, Tian Mei unconsciously wrapped her arms around his neck.
This made Lu Xiaoqi even more excited. He directly embraced her and walked into the inner compartment. That night was a contest between two individuals becoming adults, lasting until four in the morning. Tian Mei was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep after being thoroughly worn out. Lu Xiaoqi looked at her, then stepped outside to smoke.
The next day, when Tian Mei woke up, Lu Xiaoqi was by her side. She quickly composed herself, deciding to act as if nothing had happened the night before. Lu Xiaoqi observed her, thinking she would cling to him again since it was she who had been fully aware of everything yesterday. Her entire being radiated a rosy hue, with marks on her neck that he had intentionally left behind.
However, seeing her like this, it seemed she had no intention of acknowledging what had transpired. Lu Xiaoqi pulled open his robe to reveal the scratches on his chest. So, does this mean nothing happened?
Tian Mei looked at him and asked, "What do you think?"
"I think you need to take responsibility for me," he replied.
Tian Mei frowned. "We're adults now, Lu Xiaoqi. Don't be so childish. I know you were looking for a woman because of Lu Ye Ye, but last night was just an accident."
"An accident for you, but not for me! That was my first time!" Lu Xiaoqi said, his handsome face uncontrollably turning red. "Anyway, you have to take responsibility."
Tian Mei felt a headache coming on. "Taking responsibility is one thing, but I still need to take birth control pills. Given what happened last night, having a child would be irresponsible to him. I don't want my child to resent me in the future."
"We took precautions last night; you shouldn't worry," Lu Xiaoqi said as he stared at her. He noticed that she seemed genuinely changed and no longer entangled in the complexities of their relationship.
This change was good for him; he didn't want a woman who would revolve around him without any independence. With that thought in mind, he extended his hand toward her. "Hello, let's get to know each other again. I'm Lu Xiaoqi."
Though Tian Mei found it childish, she gently took his hand and replied, "I'm Tian Mei."
During their relationship, Tian Mei learned that Sun Xian had been beaten by Lu Xiaoqi. She couldn't help but find it amusing; she had heard from friends that Sun Xian had been taught a lesson by Gu Si Yi while abroad.
This person really has thick skin.
Their relationship was quite ordinary, filled with casual conversations, occasional dinners and movies on weekends, and when the mood struck, they would end up in bed together.
Tian Mei regarded this as her life experience, not questioning the gains or losses.
