Linna wiped her tears and looked at me. Although her small face remained cold, there was a pitiful expression that tugged at my heartstrings. 0

But undercover? I used to be an undercover agent! Look at where I am now! Back then, I had the police backing me up, and now? I’m stuck with a little girl who’s just crying! 0

Are you kidding me? 0

Well, I think your brother is right. Sometimes, revenge isn’t worth it; you should focus on living well. 0

I said to Linna. As soon as I finished speaking, her pitiful little face turned cold, staring blankly at me. I looked back at her innocently; it’s not that I didn’t want to help, but there really was no way. 0

“Fine! I’ll tell your mom that you don’t even have a girlfriend and that I’m just someone you hired!” 0

Linna stood up and started to walk out, but I grabbed her arm. Goodness! 0

What a big deal this is! Just because I went to police academy doesn’t mean I have the ability to help you! 0

I whispered, worried that my mom outside might hear. Linna turned back and said, “I can help you. You’ll definitely make it; most of the people in Tian Ye Group know me. I understand them, and I can help you climb the ranks so you can find their criminal evidence.” 0

Is it really that simple? I just couldn’t understand her. 0

I said in disbelief, but Linna turned her head away and insisted, “Then let’s not talk about it.” 0

“Alright, alright! I promise you, okay?” 0

Linna’s determination left me with no choice; I certainly couldn’t let her go tell my mom about me! 0

Seeing that I agreed, although her face was still a mess and her eyes were red, she smiled smugly at the corners of her mouth. This gave me a hint of conspiracy; I even began to suspect that she might have deliberately crawled into my bed this morning just to create a rift between us so she could blackmail me into doing her bidding! 0

No wonder she agreed to share a room with me yesterday! It was likely all part of her plan to find an excuse to manipulate me! 0

“Well then, how about you quit your job tomorrow and apply for a position at one of Tian Ye Group’s nightclubs?” 0

Linna said as she sat on my bed, satisfied. I was taken aback by the suggestion; working in service? That truly seemed like a good starting point for a big shot. 0

But could I refuse? This girl had leverage over me! Reluctantly, I nodded and said it was fine. 0

Then Linna, my mom, and I spent several pleasant days together. During this time, I slept on the floor while Linna never fell off the bed. This only confirmed my suspicion that when she fell into my arms that day, it was all part of her scheme! 0

I also quit my job but didn’t tell my mom; instead, I told her I was taking leave. Once she accepted that, I planned to go apply at Tian Ye Group’s nightclub. 0

A few days later, my mom noticed something. To be fair, Linna had been playing the role of daughter-in-law quite well these past few days; she managed to keep my mom happy. My mom even bought Linna several outfits but didn’t get me even a pair of socks. Honestly, I wasn’t too fond of this preferential treatment. 0
"Son, treat your girlfriend well!" my mother exclaimed, waving her small bag. I could see reluctance in her eyes, but more than that, there was joy. With a daughter-in-law, my mother felt as if she had struck gold. 0

Linna and I waved goodbye as I watched my mother get into the car. Although this visit had turned me into a mere backdrop in her eyes, I still felt a twinge of sadness as I saw her go. 0

The train departed on time, and as it slowly disappeared from view, Linna nudged me and said, "Let's go." 0

I nodded without saying anything and followed Linna back home. Once we arrived, she handed me a piece of paper and said, "Take a look at this. It's for the management position at Tianchi Nightclub. Just go there to apply. The service isn't difficult; just understand each person's personality and create opportunities for yourself. Aim for the general manager position first." 0

"No way!" I pushed the paper away. My mood was sour; why would I want to look at it? 0

"What do you mean? Do you think your mother can't handle you anymore? Fine, I'll call her," Linna said as she pulled out her phone. 0

I snatched the paper from her hands, and she put her phone away. I began to read. The general manager of this Tianchi nightclub was named Liu Fei—male, around thirty years old, lecherous and greedy. 0

Straightforward enough. 0

The hall manager was Wang Meng—male, age unknown, greedy, timid, and also lecherous. 0

Not bad; at least one of them was timid. 0

"Is this all? You made such a big deal out of this paper? This is what you call understanding? Are you kidding me?" I glanced at the information I'd gathered. What was this? Did you really need to tell me? How many people aren't greedy? How many men aren't lecherous? Especially in the entertainment industry under Tian Ye Group, where most of the staff are shady characters—aren't they all just after money and women? 0

Their ranks were too low; I already had a rough idea about these two. If you went there, you'd have to figure things out on your own to climb up to the general manager position before you could get involved in anything substantial. 0

Linna calmly told me as if this task were as simple as eating an apple! 0

"Is being the general manager of your Tian Ye Group's nightclub that easy?" I asked incredulously. But Linna turned to me with a slight smile that lit up her face like a blooming flower—she was stunning. 0

"I believe in you; you can definitely do it," Linna said. For a moment, I was captivated by her angelic smile but quickly regained my composure to insist that this information was far too scant to succeed. 0

"How about this? Look at me; I'm all alone. If you can help me out, I'll really be your girlfriend. What do you think?" Linna suddenly sat beside me, raising her delicate brows playfully as she looked at me. Her exquisite face was truly beautiful—she looked like an angel. Did she really want to be my girlfriend? 0

For a moment, I was a bit overwhelmed by beautiful fantasies—long legs, the night, a double bed. 0

I was sincere; this was definitely not some kind of transaction. From the very beginning, I thought you were a good man, someone worthy of trust. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have gone home with you even if I starved. But if you want to be my boyfriend, how can you just sit there and watch as your brother-in-law and father-in-law were harmed? 0

Linna looked at me with pleading eyes, and seeing her pitiful expression made my heart feel like it was shattering. 0

You do have a point, I thought. After considering it for a moment, I admitted that it was true. This deep-seated grudge belonged to someone else; although I felt resentment, it wasn't that intense. But saying all this made me feel like I had become part of my father-in-law's legacy. 0
