Three months ago, a call for companions titled "Hero's Order" appeared on the BBS of Lanzhou University, igniting a sense of ambition in those who saw it.

The poster was named Mo Bei, a sophomore student.

When Lin Luo first laid eyes on him, she felt that Mo Bei was entirely different from any man she had encountered before. There was no trace of urban restlessness or superficiality about him; through his deep and introspective gaze, one could almost glimpse the vastness and solemnity of the northwestern desert.
Growing up in the southern lands, Lin Luo found it hard to resist such allure. They planned this event not only to commemorate their first anniversary of being in love but also to fulfill a long-held dream of Lin Luo's.
Years ago, Lin Luo's parents, as researchers from Loulan, had ventured into the forbidden land of Lop Nur. After their expedition met with setbacks, they returned south to engage in data organization and collection.
At that time, Lin Luo was still a child, yet she was deeply captivated by the stories about Loulan. The numerous maps and documents at home vividly depicted a mysterious and desolate unknown world, awakening her deep-seated yearning for freedom. She knew that the desert in the western regions had been waiting for her all along, and one day, she would undergo the same trials as her parents.
"Lin Luo," Mo Bei said gently from behind as he pulled out a wooden box. "My brother heard that I'm bringing my girlfriend back home, and he's so happy. This is a special gift he prepared for you." He carefully opened the box, revealing a feather partially buried in the sand, its snow-white delicate patterns barely visible.
"Do you know? This feather is something my brother and I found when we got lost by Peacock River when we were kids. It came from a swan. At that time, we thought we would never find our way back, but miraculously, we did. So we've kept it safe all these years as our treasure. I’m giving it to you as our token. Do you understand what I mean?"
Lin Luo received the feather with surprise; she had never touched such a large bird before. Now, receiving such a special gift filled her with excitement. She carefully tucked away the wooden box and eagerly asked, "Mo Bei, how's the plan for Loulan coming along? I can’t wait!"
With his usual gentle smile, Mo Bei replied, "We've finalized the team. It will be us two along with three companions we've recruited, plus Brother Mo Nan and Elida who will meet us in Shanshan—seven people in total. We’ll depart from Lanzhou on September 28th, with Shanshan as our first stop."
Unable to contain her excitement, Lin Luo threw her arms around Mo Bei and shouted in joy.
The fine sand inside the box trembled with her happiness and quietly slipped through the gaps, disappearing silently into the wind.
Mo Bei kindly reminded her, "This journey will take a lot out of us. In these days leading up to our departure, make sure to eat well. And remember to bring this box; don’t forget it. Do you understand what I mean?"
"Of course! Don’t worry; I’ll keep it with me! We’ll take it into Lop Nur and let the desert bear witness to us." Lin Luo made a victorious gesture towards Mo Bei.
He nodded in satisfaction and smiled warmly at his beloved. Embracing was a wonderful thing; their bodies were so close yet their expressions remained unseen.
In that moment, Mo Bei's expression dimmed, but Lin Luo did not notice the fleeting hint of sorrow that crossed his lips.
