Mother Wu couldn't help but exclaim, "Jie Jie is truly wonderful! Our A Chen is so lucky; it seems he's used up all his good fortune just to find a wife!"
Seeing his parents so happy, Wu Xin quickly chimed in, "Parents, I deserve the most credit here! If I hadn't invited Jie Jie to stay at our house, we wouldn't have such a great sister-in-law!"
Father Wu hurriedly added, "Yes, yes! You deserve the most credit. Just tell us what you want, and we'll make it happen!"
Wu Xin's face lit up with joy.
When they arrived at the hotel, the Wu Family Parents were so eager to order all the best dishes that they nearly overwhelmed Rao Jie with their enthusiasm. Thankfully, Wu Rong arrived just in time; otherwise, Rao Jie would have been completely lost in their excitement.
After dinner, the parents' excitement reached its peak as they watched their once stubborn brat actually show concern for his wife—peeling shrimp for her, wiping her mouth, and looking out for her. The two elders were moved to tears.
At the mall, the Wu Family Parents were practically ready to buy everything Rao Jie laid her eyes on. Their doting behavior left the shop staff speechless.
While shopping and chatting, the topic inevitably turned to Rao Jie's parents.
"By the way, Jie Jie, your parents..." Mother Wu began but was quickly interrupted by Wu Rong.
"Mom!" Wu Rong's tone shifted slightly, clearly displeased that Mother Wu mentioned Rao Jie's parents.
Mother Wu quickly took Rao Jie's hand and reassured her, "Jie Jie, don’t worry. We already know about your family situation..."
Rao Jie had been feeling anxious, but upon hearing Mother Wu's words, she looked at her in surprise.
Wu Xin quickly added, "I already told Parents about it before; otherwise, they would have insisted on visiting your family."
Although Wu Rong felt a bit unhappy about it, he understood that many things were unavoidable when it came to marriage.
Rao Jie felt somewhat insecure regarding her parents. Although she had severed ties with them since her father Rao Jian went to prison, they hadn't contacted her at all—not even to scold her.
Mother Wu gently comforted her, "Jie Jie, you're a good child. It's just that your parents have outdated views; they think having a son is enough but overlook the value of a daughter. What we want to say is about your marriage—whatever arrangements you two decide on are fine with us. We don't care about others' opinions; we've been living abroad for years and have no relatives here. As long as you both are happy, that's all that matters. We only mentioned this because we didn't want you to feel burdened."
While Mother Wu spoke, Father Wu nodded along. Their thoughts had become more Westernized over time; they didn't particularly care about domestic customs. To them, what mattered was their children's happiness.
They were worried that Rao Jie might feel pressured or embarrassed in front of them and thus brought it up.
Hearing this made Rao Jie’s eyes well up with tears. Ever since meeting the Wu Family Parents, she had been anxious about this issue.
She and Wu Rong had rushed into getting their marriage certificate without informing either set of parents.
The two families had never met; in fact, whenever Wu Rong encountered Rao Jie's parents, it had always been tense.
Not to mention other formalities—they had completely disregarded them.
Originally, the Wu Family Parents were supposed to have dinner with Rao Jie's family during this trip back home.
However, the Wu Family Parents were easy to talk to, but Rao Jie knew that her own parents would definitely not be willing to sit down and have a pleasant meal with them.
