If one were to insist, her parents had not done anything wrong to her; they were simply a bit biased towards Rao Jian. However, when the two children turned against each other, and one of them faced imprisonment, it was understandable for the parents to treat her this way. If Rao Jian had a reason to report Rao Jie and send her to jail, they would undoubtedly try to rescue her as well. It was just that Rao Jian was their favored child, which made their reactions more intense.
Parents would never betray their own children, right? Rao Jie had always believed this. The incident was merely a conflict between her and Rao Jian, and their parents were temporarily unable to accept that their daughter would accuse their son, leading to his imprisonment. Rao Jie did not wish to sever ties; she simply wanted to give her parents time to process the situation.
Even if they never forgave Rao Jie, as their daughter, she still felt obligated to care for them. After all, they had given her life and provided for her materially. It was only right for Rao Jie to repay them. However, there was no gratitude owed from Rao Jian; it was a matter of fairness.
At this awkward moment, even if Rao Jie wanted to discuss a formal meeting between both families with her parents, she feared being met with cold indifference. She worried about offending the Wu Family Parents. In that case, it would be Rao Jie who embarrassed herself in front of her own Parents.
In a typical family, perhaps Rao Jie's situation would have been seen as troublesome and lowly long ago. But the Wu Family Parents were different; they not only accepted the situation but also encouraged Rao Jie, telling her it was fine to follow what the young people wanted as long as they were happy. They didn’t care about propriety and wouldn’t look down on Rao Jie for it.
In truth, the Wu Family Parents hadn’t mentioned that after learning about what their daughter-in-law had gone through from Wu Xin, they wished they could bring the poor Rao Jie home as their own daughter. But even now, having a daughter-in-law meant they could love her just like a biological daughter.
Mother Wu gently patted Rao Jie on the head and said, “Good child, from now on you are part of our Wu Family. In our home, you will never be wronged. If Wu Rong bullies you or makes you unhappy, just tell us, and we’ll teach him a lesson.”
Wu Rong scoffed and said, “As if I would!”
Wu Xin chimed in, “And I’m here too! Jie Jie, you’re first my good friend and then my sister-in-law. If we’re being technical, I guess I’m like family too! Hahaha.”
The laughter along the way dispelled all of Rao Jie's heaviest concerns.
That evening, the Wu Family settled into their apartment, all together and neatly arranged.
The next morning, Rao Jie got up early to prepare breakfast for everyone, only to run into Mother Wu. Mother Wu was too excited to sleep and had risen early herself to make breakfast. When she saw Rao Jie, she wasn't surprised; after all, Rao Jie had stayed with them before while accompanying Wu Xin, and Mother Wu already knew what kind of person Rao Jie was.
The two women worked closely together in the kitchen, busily preparing a hearty breakfast for the Wu Family. Mother Wu couldn't stop smiling throughout the process.
Wu Xin even mentioned Rao Jie's ambition to become a Pastry Chef. Father Wu praised Rao Jie for her aspirations, saying that people should pursue what they truly want to do in life. He emphasized that this is what gives life meaning; it would be truly tragic to look back after many years and realize that one had never done anything worth striving for or poured their heart into.
