Yao Qin had a chaotic mess of black lines above her head, as if flies were buzzing around.
“Let’s go home,” Ao Zhan said decisively. With a swift motion, he wrapped his arm around Yao Qin and started leading her back.
On the other side, the ignored Venerable Dongting was so furious that he jumped up and shouted, “Ao Zhan, come fight! Come fight!”
“Not interested!” Ao Zhan replied without turning around, coldly retorting, “If you keep yelling, I’ll let the Shrimp Soldiers and Crab Generals from North Sea come out and wear you out!”
Venerable Dongting: “……”
Yao Qin: “……” She was left speechless by his outrageous words.
Ao Zhan continued to act foolishly, as he still carried the Jade Spittoon with him everywhere, treating it like his most treasured possession.
The only silver lining was that he could now switch relatively freely between his silly and normal modes. As long as it didn’t involve anything related to Yao Qin, he was mostly in his right mind.
Yao Qin understood that he couldn’t accept the reality of transforming into a human, but she didn’t understand why he couldn’t accept it.
Several times she wanted to ask him about it, but when the words reached her lips, she didn’t know how to start.
What if he couldn’t handle it and turned himself back into that crystal ball? That would be a loss too great to bear.
"Today, I was mocked again by that brat Long Qi," Ao Zhan said, fiddling with the chessboard while gesturing for Yao Qin to make the first move.
Yao Qin grabbed a handful of pieces and, without a second thought, tossed them into the Jade Spittoon with a clatter. "The East Sea Dragon Prince is sincere; the rest of those scoundrels are just laughing behind your back."
"Yes, I think so too," Ao Zhan replied, leisurely retrieving the pieces from the Jade Spittoon and setting them back in place.
Seeing this, Yao Qin once again reached out and scattered the pieces across the board. "But you can't blame them; you walk around with that Jade Spittoon all day. Isn't it just inviting ridicule?"
Ao Zhan lightly slapped her hand away, his expression unchanged. "This is meant to replace you."
Yao Qin rolled her eyes at that. "Am I someone who can be replaced?"
Ao Zhan stared at her for a long moment before slowly shaking his head.
Yao Qin continued, "Well, there you have it. Tomorrow when you go to the Heavenly Court, take me along. I haven't been there to have fun in ages."
She said it casually, not expecting him to suddenly change his expression and reply coldly, "No way."
Yao Qin was left feeling dejected and fell silent.
After a long pause, Ao Zhan seemed to gather his resolve and said, "I've been thinking about how to keep you in North Sea."
"I'm already here, aren't I? Alive as your demon, dead as your dead demon," Yao Qin joked half-heartedly.
Ao Zhan's expression twitched slightly, and just as he was about to say something, the Shrimp Soldier hurried in to report that Venerable Dongting was outside asking for an audience.
Yao Qin was taken aback, thinking to herself that the Shrimp Soldier said "asking for an audience" rather than "challenging." It was indeed a rare occurrence for that guy not to come in and stir up trouble.
Ao Zhan gently pressed his right palm down, signaling Yao Qin to stay put as he went alone to greet Venerable Dongting.
Left with nothing to do, Yao Qin idly waited in place, occasionally fiddling with the chess pieces.
After a full two hours, Ao Zhan returned with a look of constipation after conspiring with Venerable Dongting.
"I have found a way to keep you here forever," Ao Zhan said as he sat down.
Yao Qin, disinterested, tossed a chess piece casually and asked, "What is it?"
Taking a deep breath, Ao Zhan replied, "I’ll find you a live-in son-in-law."
Upon hearing this, Yao Qin's mouth dropped open, and the chess piece she had just thrown fell back into place.
She instinctively swallowed hard, causing the piece to get stuck in her throat and choking back her words of "Have you lost your mind again?"
