The saying goes that a higher official can crush a person underfoot, and since he had invoked the Emperor, no one dared to defy him.
Thus, a noisy group made their way to the Heavenly Court. Upon arrival, they continued to argue and bicker, creating quite a commotion. The Emperor was so annoyed by the noise that he slammed down his jade seal and shouted, “All of you shall be punished to serve as Stable Supervisors!”
Would they really be sent to be Stable Supervisors?
That was impossible.
Ao Zhan stood quietly to the side, his expression indifferent as if none of this concerned him. Venerable Dongting, on the other hand, was mentally calculating the benefits of being a Stable Supervisor, his eyes darting around.
Red Origin Immortal Lord was so furious that he was practically jumping up and down, his hair standing on end.
Yao Qin expressed her reluctance to take someone else's job; she certainly did not want to do the work of feeding horses.
Fearing that they would cause a ruckus like Sun Wukong did in the past at the Heavenly Palace, Tai Shang Lao Jun decisively stepped in to stop them.
The Emperor called over Tai Shang Lao Jun, and the two whispered together for a while. After listening to Tai Shang Lao Jun's advice, the Emperor nodded and turned to Red Origin Immortal Lord, saying, “Since the crystal ball has already taken shape and has not violated any heavenly laws or committed any wrongdoing, it cannot be destroyed. As an immortal, you have harbored evil thoughts; thus, you shall be punished. I decree that you spend a hundred years facing the wall in reflection.”
Red Origin Immortal Lord had intended to seek justice but ended up in a worse situation instead. He could only swallow his anger and leave, preparing for a hundred years of being just another Red Origin Immortal Lord.
“As for the three of you…” The Emperor pondered his words carefully. “Go do what you need to do.”
Upon hearing this, Venerable Dongting's heart soared with joy; his face broke into a wide smile. He hurried over and reached out to take Yao Qin’s hand with a charming grin, saying, “The sunset is beautiful; we should seize the moment. My dear, let’s go!”
However, Yao Qin recoiled as if shocked by electricity and quickly ran over to grasp Ao Zhan's hand instead. Her face radiated affection as she smiled sweetly and said, “Husband, let’s go home.”
Ao Zhan never expected the Emperor to be so straightforward. Had he known this would be the case, he wouldn't have gone through such a long detour. He felt a surge of joy inside, tightened his grip on his subordinate, and replied to Yao Qin, "Let's go."
Venerable Dongting looked utterly confused and asked, "What do you mean?"
Yao Qin raised an eyebrow and gently leaned against Ao Zhan's shoulder, saying, "It means exactly what you see."
Venerable Dongting narrowed his eyes and glared fiercely at Ao Zhan.
Seeing the anger boiling on his face, Ao Zhan pondered for a moment and said, "Otherwise, how about waiting for my Jade Spittoon—"
"Don't!" Venerable Dongting quickly interrupted him. Who would want that broken Jade Spittoon? Was he supposed to bring it back to arrange flowers?
"Oh, then forget it." Ao Zhan said as he took Yao Qin's hand and started to walk away.
Venerable Dongting couldn't allow that; he immediately chased after them and grabbed Yao Qin's other hand, saying, "Come back with me to Dongting Lake."
Ao Zhan, displeased, pulled Yao Qin toward himself and declared, "Come back with me to North Sea."
Venerable Dongting tugged hard on Yao Qin, shouting, "She belongs to me."
Ao Zhan refused to back down either, pulling Yao Qin with all his strength and retorting, "She belongs to me."
The two of them tugged at each other stubbornly. Then they both looked up at the Emperor simultaneously and shouted in unison, "Emperor!"
The Emperor felt overwhelmed, exclaiming in frustration, "Lao Jun, take them away to serve as my Stable Supervisors!"
Tai Shang Lao Jun coughed discreetly; he certainly couldn't send the Dragon King to feed horses and clean up manure, or it would cause chaos in the Dragon Palace.
Quickly, he stepped forward with a suggestion, "Why not call Yue Lao?"
The tipsy Yue Lao arrived with the Yin Yuan Book. Upon opening it, he was instantly dumbfounded.
To his shock, he saw three people connected together, with Yao Qin tied to two red strings.
It turned out that Yue Lao, in his drunken state, had tangled the threads of fate and messed up the destinies.
In a fit of anger, the Emperor punished him by assigning him to work part-time as a Stable Supervisor.
As for the three involved, Tai Shang Lao Jun and the Emperor exchanged whispers.
Finally, the Emperor made a decisive statement: "I will send you three down to the mortal realm with your memories intact for reincarnation. You will have a hundred years. Whoever among you meets Yao Qin first will be her destined partner."
Then came three loud cries of "Ah—," "Ah—," "Ah—," as the three of them fell like kites with severed strings from the clouds down to the mortal world.
