In an instant, the orange cat lunged forward, its twisted and ferocious face smashing against the glass door, followed by a sharp, piercing scream filled with rage and agitation. Its claws frantically battered the glass door with wild intensity.
Tan Ming pressed hard against the door. The orange cat outside was equally relentless, and the two engaged in a fierce standoff. The veins on Tan Ming's arms bulged prominently.
"Lock the door!" he managed to squeeze out between clenched teeth, not daring to relax for even a moment.
Beside him, Yan Qing searched frantically around, finally spotting the door bolt beneath the table where the entry logs were kept. He stumbled over, trembling hands fumbling as he picked up the bolt. His movements were sluggish due to his inner turmoil and anxiety, and it took him a moment to finally secure the door.
The moment he locked it, Tan Ming felt as if all his strength had been drained away; his body lurched backward.
Yan Qing wanted to ask if he was alright.
At that moment, the orange cat, locked outside, continued its assault, repeatedly crashing against the glass door. Though thick and sturdy, the door trembled violently with each impact. Just as they turned away, tiny visible cracks began to appear on the glass.
Tan Ming forced himself to muster some strength and quickly glanced at Yan Qing’s bleeding leg. Without waiting for him to speak, he swiftly moved to support his arm, almost dragging him into his dormitory.
His dorm was on the first floor, and its number was relatively safe.
Once inside, Tan Ming immediately locked the door again but still felt no sense of security.
The dorm was empty and shrouded in darkness; nothing was visible.
“Close the balcony window,” Tan Ming said in a low voice.
Yan Qing belatedly realized that this was directed at him. Without asking further questions, he gritted his teeth and limped toward the balcony to lock the window in the dark.
Just as he secured it, a black paw suddenly slammed heavily against the window. Startled, his heart raced as he instinctively took a step back, causing the windowsill to tremble slightly.
The first-floor window was equipped with anti-theft bars that securely protected the glass inside.
Yan Qing let out a long breath and hurriedly drew the curtains shut, thinking that out of sight meant out of mind.
As he stepped back into the room still shaken, he heard Tan Ming take a deep breath followed by a sound of heavy objects being moved. Listening closely, he realized that Tan Ming was lifting a cabinet to block the doorway.
Hearing the clattering noise from within the dormitory made Yan Qing admire Tan Ming even more; that cabinet was nearly six feet tall and filled with items. He could hardly imagine how heavy it must be—yet Tan Ming had managed to lift it effortlessly!
Just as Yan Qing opened his mouth to speak, a chilling scream echoed from the hallway, reverberating through the air. This was followed by a series of violent banging on the door.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each thud against the door made Yan Qing furrow his brow involuntarily.
Both of them held their breath, not daring to make a sound. The guy outside simply banged his head against the door a few times, and when he realized it wouldn’t budge, he let out a couple of whimpers before turning to pound on another dorm room's door.
Ah! A chilling scream and cries echoed from the neighboring dormitory.
Yan Qing's legs felt a bit weak, not from fear of the sound, but from a sharp, prickling pain in his injured leg that was becoming increasingly unbearable.
The commotion outside lasted for more than ten minutes. Finally, when it quieted down, the entire dormitory fell into an eerie silence.
His legs had gone numb. Yan Qing gently lifted one leg, placing his hand weakly on the table.
Tan Ming slowly took out his phone, instantly illuminating the dorm with its glow.
Seeing his phone reminded Yan Qing that he had forgotten his laptop in the library, and his expression changed immediately; that laptop was worth several thousand yuan!
Thinking about it made him feel a wave of regret and heartache. Sighing deeply, he felt lost in thought.
That laptop wasn’t particularly expensive; it was just that it had accompanied him through countless late nights of leveling up and battling monsters, soothing his lonely heart. He regarded it as his soul’s little companion.
