The crowd led the Bee to the skylight, and a dozen people quickly formed a circle, raising their torches high. Although the plants and animals had mutated and evolved to a higher level, they retained their instincts. The heat of the flames terrified the Bee, causing them to flee in panic through the skylight.
However, before the crowd could breathe a sigh of relief, the Bees that had flown out returned. Their emerald green eyes turned blood red, and the transparent wings were streaked with crimson. Their bodies had doubled in size, resembling demons.
Without a moment's hesitation, Tan Ming snatched the ladder from Xu Le's hands, swiftly leaning it against the wall and agilely climbing up. A Bee was flapping its wings and approaching from outside. "Metal sheet!" he shouted urgently.
Zhang Yan quickly handed him the metal sheet, her hands trembling slightly from nervousness. Tan Ming firmly caught it and slammed it against the skylight with force. A loud scraping sound echoed as he blocked the Bees outside.
Xu Le hurriedly passed him the tools to secure the metal sheet. After Tan Ming quickly sealed off the skylight, he leaped down, landing steadily on the ground and kicking up a cloud of dust.
Meanwhile, the ten or so Bees that had just flown back began darting around wildly along the ceiling of the restaurant. Many people were caught in their chaos; some fell to the ground without a sound, their bodies revealing puncture wounds from venomous stings.
As one Bee lunged at Tan Ming with its sharp mouthparts exposed, he reacted swiftly, swinging his arm forcefully and sending the Bee crashing against the wall. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a sharp knife, gripping it tightly as he stepped forward.
The Bee that had been slammed against the wall was instantly stabbed; its swollen abdomen burst open, spilling deep red liquid that emitted a foul odor. Tan Ming withdrew his knife and with several swift motions, severed the head of the Bee where its stinger was attached, causing a small splatter of blood.
Seeing this, the fear of the Bees dissipated significantly among the others, who began to imitate his actions. With everyone working in unison, they quickly dealt with all of the mutated Bees.
Only one student was unfortunate enough to be stung by a Bee's venomous needle; their face turned purple instantly, struggling for breath before losing their life. The rest remained unharmed. Xu Le and Zhang Yan carefully carried their fallen classmate down while Tan Ming organized some others to clean up upstairs.
Four corpses lay sprawled on the upper floor, their deaths gruesome and reminiscent of the classmate who had been stung to death by the bees downstairs. The surrounding stench of mold and blood was particularly unbearable. Blood pooled on the floor, flowing freely and forming a shocking crimson lake, while the scattered remains of a dozen bees lay haphazardly across the ground, sending a chill down Bone's spine.
Meanwhile, on the first floor, after the candlelight was ignited, the roaring animals outside were drawn in like moths to a flame. They slammed their bulky bodies against the restaurant's doors and windows, causing them to shake violently as if they might shatter at any moment. Each impact heightened everyone's already frayed nerves.
Yan Qing noticed the undeniable fatigue in Tan Ming's eyes, recalling that he had only slept a few hours last night and had been busy ever since. "You should take a break," he urged.
Shen Jianghuan's face also reflected guilt as he scolded himself for instinctively asking Tan Ming for help whenever something happened, forgetting to let him rest. "Senior, you should rest. I can handle things here," Zhang Liu said earnestly, though he couldn't bring himself to meet Tan Ming's gaze.
Yan Qing observed that there seemed to be some tension between Zhang Liu and Tan Ming; Zhang Liu's eyes would often dart towards Tan Ming but quickly avert as if afraid of being caught.
Tan Ming turned to Yan Qing and said, "I'll be back in an hour."
"Alright," Yan Qing replied readily.
With that, Tan Ming turned and headed upstairs.
