This was also something Tan Ming heard from others; he did not witness it himself. At the time Jiang Li was admitted to the hospital, a friend had called him to ask if he wanted to go visit Jiang Li. Tan Ming had something to do that day, so he didn't go.
Qi Qiuluo's expression faltered. Fortunately, they discovered it early and got him to the hospital. However, I suppose you might not know about this. After all, Jiang Li had only been hospitalized for a week or two, and during that time, he was downcast due to a breakup.
Tan Ming didn't understand why Jiang Li felt so miserable and still chose to break up. Later, he heard from other friends that it was Jiang Li who had cheated first, which led to the breakup. He initially wanted to feel sympathy for him, but since he couldn't muster any genuine sympathy, he stopped paying attention.
Perhaps Qi Qiuluo didn't want to see Jiang Li in the dormitory, or maybe there were other reasons; Jiang Li moved out of school and rented a place outside. So Qi Qiuluo was unaware of Jiang Li's hospitalization, and when Tan Ming returned to school after visiting the hospital, Qi Qiuluo also didn't know.
However, fate still favored them, as they ended up encountering each other at school. By the time Qi Qiuluo saw Jiang Li again, it was when Jiang Li ran out of a supermarket. He hadn't gone far; as soon as he exited the commercial street, he got entangled in the vines of a willow tree.
The willow tree didn't strangle him to death but instead hung him up. He was suspended for over an hour, and just when he felt he could no longer hold on, he saw Jiang Li. Jiang Li somehow found a way to free him from the tree; in order to give him time to escape, Jiang Li provocatively challenged the willow tree and ultimately got ensnared himself, leading to his own demise.
Before Jiang Li died, he saw Qi Qiuluo running away and smiled with a relaxed expression. In that moment, Qi Qiuluo couldn't articulate what he felt inside. He hated Jiang Li, yet seeing him die brought no satisfaction.
Qi Qiuluo forced a bitter smile; knowing or not knowing didn't matter anymore. Jiang Li was already dead. The complexities of their relationship—love and hate—were buried with Jiang Li's death.
But since it was because of him that Jiang Li died, Qi Qiuluo felt compelled to take Jiang Li's remains away. He gazed despondently at the skeleton he held in his arms. It had taken considerable effort for him to retrieve it from the willow tree.
Tan Ming looked at him and, unable to hold back, revealed that this skeleton was not Jiang Li. Jiang Li stood at one hundred eighty-nine centimeters tall, while this skeleton was barely one hundred seventy, resembling more of a woman.
After Tan Ming spoke, Qi Qiuluo's expression visibly froze. Yan Qing covered her mouth slightly, while Ling Xingyuan burst out laughing. Their love truly resembled an absurd comedy, with both of them loving each other in a way that felt both real and fake.
Qi Qiuluo took a deep breath, even neglecting the skeleton he had been carefully cradling. His true nature was laid bare as he threw it onto the ground with a curse. He attempted to stomp on it, but Yan Qing stopped him.
"What has this person done to you?" Yan Qing asked, her tone slightly reproachful. She crouched down to examine the skeleton, relieved to find it intact. She carefully repositioned it on the ground.
"Who is she to you that you protect her so?" Qi Qiuluo felt irritated. The thought of Yan Qing wiping it clean sent shivers down his spine.
"She isn’t anyone to me, but think about it—after death, to be trampled on is just humiliating," Yan Qing replied as she stood up. "Besides, she was simply lying quietly on the ground or hanging from a tree."
In his emotional outburst, Qi Qiuluo completely disregarded what he had said or how excessive his actions were. It could be summed up in two words: impulsive. To put it plainly, he was utterly irrational.
"You’re worried about someone else’s humiliation after death? You should focus on yourself instead!"
