After class, Mu Yunze mustered his courage and walked up to the Class Flower. "Hello, Lin Shu Yao," he said.
Lin Shu Yao looked up and smiled sweetly. "Hello, Mu Yunze."
"You were amazing at solving that problem just now!" Mu Yunze's face turned red as he finally managed to say a complete sentence.
Lin Shu Yao chuckled lightly. "That problem was simple. Didn't you understand? I can teach you."
"Really?" Mu Yunze exclaimed, his heart filled with excitement as if he had seen a glimmer of hope.
"Of course," Lin Shu Yao replied readily.
In the following days, Lin Shu Yao took time out of her schedule to tutor Mu Yunze in advanced mathematics. Although he initially struggled with the subject, under her patient guidance, he gradually began to grasp the complex formulas and theorems.
He discovered that Lin Shu Yao was not only intelligent but also incredibly patient. She used various methods to explain concepts until he fully understood them. Sometimes, she would pretend to be angry, playfully tapping his head and calling him too slow.
Though it stung a little, Mu Yunze felt a sweetness in his heart. He thought of Lin Shu Yao as a gentle teacher guiding him into the realm of knowledge.
He felt light as if he were walking on clouds. Her tutoring was not just academic help; it felt like a ray of sunshine illuminating his previously dull college life. He began to look forward to every class and every encounter with Lin Shu Yao. Even just catching a glimpse of her from afar filled him with inexplicable excitement.
He carefully tucked this budding affection deep within his heart, nurturing it like a delicate flower. He dared not express it for fear of shattering the delicate balance between them or being rejected and losing even their friendship. Instead, he silently watched over her and quietly devoted himself to her.
He would arrive early to claim the seat Lin Shu Yao liked, clean the desk before she arrived, and offer her a bottle of water when she looked thirsty. He even mimicked her favorite handwriting style, writing her name in his notebook over and over again.
Li Haoyu noticed something unusual about Mu Yunze. This guy had been distracted lately, grinning at his phone while murmuring Lin Shu Yao's name.
"Hey Mu Yunze, have you fallen in love recently?" Li Haoyu teased as he nudged Mu Yunze's shoulder with a mischievous grin.
"N-no!" Mu Yunze hurriedly denied it, but his cheeks flushed involuntarily.
"Still pretending! You’re such a coward. If you have a crush, just admit it—what’s there to be embarrassed about?" Li Haoyu said with an air of someone who had been through it all. "If you like her, go after her! What if she likes you back?"
Chase? Mu Yunze thought bitterly; how could he have the courage? Lin Shu Yao was Lin Shu Yao—a top student surrounded by many admirers. As an introverted and honest guy, how could he dare hope for her affection?
"Forget it; she won't like me," Mu Yunze said, lowering his head with a hint of self-doubt in his voice.
"How do you know? You won't know unless you try!" Li Haoyu patted him on the shoulder encouragingly. "Brother, I support you! When it comes to chasing girls, you need to be bold and thick-skinned!"
