Mu Yunze turned around and saw Chu Mohan standing behind him, a gentle smile on her face. "Thank you," he said, somewhat awkwardly lowering his camera, his cheeks slightly flushed.
"You like photography too?" Chu Mohan asked.
"Well, sort of," Mu Yunze replied, scratching his head. "I think it's meaningful to capture life through the lens."
"I feel the same way," Chu Mohan said, her eyes sparkling with enthusiasm. "I particularly enjoy photographing old buildings. They carry traces of history and have so many stories to tell."
The two of them began to chat, moving from photography to literature, then to music and travel, discovering that they shared many common interests. Mu Yunze found it comfortable to talk with Chu Mohan; she always knew how to engage him without making him feel awkward or nervous.
As days went by, Mu Yunze and Chu Mohan spent more time together. They participated in group activities, discussed academic issues, and studied together in the library. Mu Yunze realized he increasingly enjoyed being around Chu Mohan; her kindness and understanding felt like a refreshing spring, nourishing his previously parched heart.
Han Jincheng noticed that Mu Yunze and Chu Mohan were growing closer, and unease began to creep into her heart. Although she had a lively and cheerful personality, she was quite sensitive when it came to matters of the heart. She knew that Chu Mohan was exceptional and popular among boys, and she worried that Mu Yunze might be taken away by her.
However, Han Jincheng's unease did not affect the warming friendship between Mu Yunze and Chu Mohan. He was immersed in the joy of their interactions, almost forgetting about Class Flower's existence.
Meanwhile, Class Flower was deeply hurt after Mu Yunze's rejection. She had always viewed love as a game and never expected to lose so completely.
"Damn Mu Yunze!" Class Flower slammed her coffee cup onto the ground, splattering coffee all over herself without a care. She had always been proud and arrogant, unable to accept rejection from someone she had never regarded highly. Moreover, there was still the bet with Ye Jingtai hanging over her head.
She recalled Ye Jingtai's cynical smile and flippant tone! Just thinking about it made her feel sick. How could that good-for-nothing punk, who had nothing but looks going for him, be worthy of her?
"Ye Jingtai, just wait!" Class Flower gritted her teeth, each word forced out as if through clenched jaws. A fierce glint flashed in her eyes, sharp and dangerous like a poisoned sword. Mu Yunze's rejection felt like a resounding slap across her proud face.
She couldn't accept such failure, especially not losing to someone as seemingly gentle and harmless as Chu Mohan. Since pursuing Mu Yunze was futile, she would have to follow through with the bet and take down Ye Jingtai. Although she loathed him, she couldn't allow herself to lose face; at least she needed to gain the upper hand in this game with Ye Jingtai.
Ye Jingtai was known throughout the school as the leader of the troublemakers in the neighboring class. He roamed around with a group of followers all day long, getting into fights and causing trouble—truly a problem student in the eyes of teachers.
He had a decent-looking face with sharp features and striking eyebrows that added to his rebellious charm, attracting a group of admirers among some girls who saw him as the quintessential bad boy. But Class Flower only felt disgust towards him; she found him vulgar and repulsive, exuding an air of sleaziness with every move he made.
