When Class Flower found Ye Jingtai, he was in the back alley of the school, surrounded by a few lackeys, puffing away on cigarettes. The air was thick with the acrid smell of smoke. The group laughed and joked around him, while Ye Jingtai occasionally chimed in with a flippant tone, laced with disdain.
Upon seeing Class Flower approach, Ye Jingtai let out a loud whistle and grinned mischievously. "Well, if it isn't our big campus beauty, Class Flower! What brings you here? Have you finally decided to come play with me?" His tone was teasing, filled with a hint of mockery, his eyes glinting with mischief.
Class Flower stood before Ye Jingtai with an air of superiority, tilting her chin up as if bestowing a favor upon him, looking down at him from her elevated stance. "Ye Jingtai, let’s have some fun," she said lightly, her voice dripping with sarcasm as if it were merely a trivial matter.
Ye Jingtai exhaled a puff of smoke that curled around him, obscuring his expression. He squinted at Class Flower, a wicked smile creeping across his lips that carried an undercurrent of danger. "Fun? Lin the campus beauty, are you sure you can handle it? I’m not someone to be trifled with; don’t come crying to me later."
"I can handle it just fine," Class Flower replied haughtily, her eyes sparkling with confidence and provocation. "I’m just worried you might not be able to keep up." She wasn’t afraid of Ye Jingtai; she had plenty of ways to make him comply.
"Interesting," Ye Jingtai said as he stubbed out his cigarette and stood up tall, his imposing figure casting a shadow over Class Flower that brought an air of pressure. "How do you want to play?" His voice was low and gravelly, revealing no emotion.
Meanwhile, Mu Yunze’s life seemed to have settled down; the entanglement with Class Flower had faded away, replaced by a growing friendship with Chu Mohan. He enjoyed this tranquility but felt as though something was missing.
"Mu Yunze, let’s go watch a movie!" Han Jincheng suddenly appeared before him, her smile bright like a sunflower.
Mu Yunze hesitated for a moment, instinctively wanting to decline since they had just seen one recently. However, seeing Han Jincheng's eager expression made it impossible for him to say no. "Uh..."
In the cinema, Han Jincheng deliberately chose a horror film and seized the opportunity to clutch Mu Yunze's arm tightly during the scary parts. He felt somewhat uncomfortable but didn’t push her away.
"Mu Yunze, why did you reject Lin Shu Yao? She’s so beautiful and smart," Han Jincheng asked casually.
Mu Yunze paused before slowly responding, "She’s not right for me."
"Why not?" Han Jincheng asked pointedly after a brief pause as she observed Mu Yunze's expression. "Do you like Chu Mohan?"
Mu Yunze's face instantly flushed red. "No! Don’t say that."
Han Jincheng covered her mouth to stifle her laughter. "Look at you; your face is all red! But really, Chu Mohan is quite impressive—gentle and considerate—no wonder you like her."
Mu Yunze wanted to explain but didn’t know how to articulate it; he could only let Han Jincheng misunderstand.
In the following days, Han Jincheng began appearing frequently in Mu Yunze's life. She would run into him at the library or share elective classes with him. Once she accidentally spilled water on his notes and blushed while asking for tutoring help.
Gradually, Mu Yunze became accustomed to Han Jincheng’s presence. Her lively and cheerful demeanor was like a ray of sunshine that brightened his previously gloomy life. He started looking forward to seeing her and chatting with her, even becoming attentive to every expression and movement she made.
One night, Han Jincheng invited Mu Yunze for a walk on the playground. The night was hazy and the playground empty. They walked side by side in silence; the atmosphere felt subtly charged.
