Mu Yunze's anger flared at those words. A poor, pathetic kid? Although he had yet to make his mark, he would not allow anyone to insult him like that! Just as he was about to retort, Han Jincheng pulled him back.
“Qin Shaoming, I’ll say it again: we’ve broken up! Don’t come bothering me anymore!” Han Jincheng declared, turning away with Mu Yunze and ignoring Qin Shaoming's shouts behind them.
Inside, Mu Yunze felt a rush of satisfaction. This woman really stood up for him at a critical moment. He glanced back at Qin Shaoming's ashen face and couldn't help but smirk. Did he think he could compete with Mu Yunze for a woman? He still had a long way to go!
After walking for a while, Han Jincheng's emotions gradually settled. She looked at Mu Yunze with a hint of apology. “I’m sorry, Mu Yunze. I didn’t mean for you to see that.”
Seeing her slightly remorseful expression stirred something in his heart. This woman was usually fiery and fierce, but in this moment, she looked vulnerable, which made him feel a pang of sympathy.
He reached out and ruffled her hair gently, his tone softening. “No need to worry about that clown; he’s not worth your time.”
Han Jincheng looked up at him, gratitude flashing in her eyes. She instinctively linked her arm through his, pressing close as if seeking warmth from him. Mu Yunze felt her softness against him, and an unfamiliar sensation stirred within.
His gaze roamed over her face, from her slightly furrowed brows to the delicate tremor of her eyelashes, finally resting on her pale lips. Taking a deep breath, he leaned closer and whispered in her ear, “Jin Cheng, while I don’t like prying into your past…” He paused for a moment, his tone turning serious. “You owe me an explanation.”
Han Jincheng stiffened slightly, her heart racing. She met Mu Yunze's deep gaze but quickly looked away in flustered embarrassment. After a brief silence, she nodded gently, as if agreeing to his request.
They walked side by side along the tree-lined path of the campus, the atmosphere feeling somewhat delicate. Mu Yunze remained quiet, simply enjoying her presence beside him while Han Jincheng kept her head down, lost in thought about how to begin.
Arriving at a nearby café, Mu Yunze held open the glass door for Han Jincheng to enter first. She took a moment to compose herself before stepping inside and finding a relatively quiet corner to sit down.
Mu Yunze settled across from her, his gaze warm and attentive. Han Jincheng took a deep breath, trying to calm herself.
When the server approached, Han Jincheng ordered two cappuccinos before turning to Mu Yunze. “What would you like to drink?”
“Just what you’re having,” Mu Yunze replied casually.
Once the server left, Han Jincheng cradled her coffee cup in both hands, feeling its warmth seep through the ceramic. Finally summoning her courage, she began recounting her past with Qin Shaoming.
“Qin Shaoming was my high school classmate,” she said in a low voice. “He came from a wealthy family—typical rich kid.”
She paused briefly before continuing. “He knew how to make girls happy with sweet words and charming flattery.”
A hint of self-deprecation crept into her tone as she added, “I was too naive back then; I fell for his tricks and dated him for a while.”
