Mu Yunze ignored Ye Jingtai's question, his gaze icy as he strode directly to Class Flower's side. He bent down and asked with concern, "Are you okay?"
Class Flower looked up at Mu Yunze with tear-filled eyes, her heart a whirlwind of emotions. She never expected that in her moment of helplessness and despair, it would be this man, who she once toyed with, who would stand up to protect her.
Seeing Class Flower's frail and vulnerable state ignited Mu Yunze's anger once more. He abruptly turned around and grabbed Ye Jingtai by the collar, lifting him off the ground.
"You dare—" Ye Jingtai barely had time to finish his sentence before Mu Yunze's knee slammed into his abdomen.
"Ugh!" Ye Jingtai let out a pained grunt, his body curling up like a cooked shrimp.
Mu Yunze didn’t stop there; fueled by rage, he swung his fist down hard onto Ye Jingtai's face.
One punch, two punches, three punches.
Each blow carried Mu Yunze's fury and disgust, each hit sending waves of excruciating pain through Ye Jingtai.
Ye Jingtai was utterly defenseless against the assault, blood and saliva mingling as they dripped from the corner of his mouth, leaving him in a pitiful state.
"You dare hit me! I won’t let you get away with this!" he slurred defiantly, his eyes filled with resentment.
Han Jincheng watched in horror from the side as she supported Class Flower. "Lin Shu Yao, are you alright?" she asked anxiously. Class Flower’s face was pale, her eyes hollow as if her soul had been lost; she simply shook her head gently.
Finally, Mu Yunze delivered a fierce kick to Ye Jingtai, sending him crashing to the ground. "If I ever see you bullying women again, I’ll make sure to deal with you every single time!" he warned coldly before turning back to support Class Flower. He said to Han Jincheng, "Let’s go."
Han Jincheng nodded, and the three of them left the scene behind, leaving Ye Jingtai alone on the ground like a defeated dog. He clutched his stomach and groaned in pain, his eyes filled with bitterness and humiliation.
After returning to the dormitory, Class Flower locked herself in her room without saying a word. Han Jincheng knocked on the door worriedly but only heard muffled sobs from inside. She sighed and turned away.
Mu Yunze returned to his dormitory but found it hard to calm down. The image of Class Flower’s pale face and vacant eyes flooded his mind, stirring up a complex mix of emotions within him. He didn’t understand why he had helped her—perhaps out of compassion, perhaps guilt, or maybe there was still a flicker of fondness for her lingering in his heart.
In the following days, Class Flower didn’t attend classes. Han Jincheng informed Mu Yunze that Class Flower had locked herself in her room, refusing to eat or drink and not speaking to anyone. Worry gnawed at Mu Yunze; he wanted to help but didn’t know how. He didn’t want to provoke Class Flower again yet found it hard to let go of her.
Mu Yunze’s calm didn’t last long. Two evenings later, while walking back to his dorm alone, the setting sun stretched his shadow long across the path. As he passed through a small grove on campus, a figure suddenly leaped out from behind a tree, blocking his way.
"Well well, isn’t this our great hero Mu Yunze?" The newcomer was Liu Feng, one of Ye Jingtai’s lackeys—a burly guy with a face full of rough features. He grinned widely, revealing yellowed teeth and speaking in a taunting tone.
Mu Yunze halted and coldly regarded him. "What do you want?"
"Can’t I just come chat if there’s nothing else?" Liu Feng replied sarcastically. "I heard you’ve been quite impressive lately—daring even to take on our Brother Tai."
Mu Yunze frowned; he had tried to avoid contact with Ye Jingtai’s gang but now they had come looking for him anyway. "I don’t want any trouble," he said calmly as he stepped aside.
"Oh? Feeling pretty cocky!" Liu Feng grabbed Mu Yunze by the collar. "You hit our Brother Tai and think it’ll just end like that? Our Brother Tai has said you’ll pay for this!"
