"What’s the rush?" I asked, looking at the out-of-breath Xiao Li. 0

"Someone just came to the shop asking about you," Xiao Li whispered. 0

"They said they were from the tax bureau and wanted to check our recent assessment records." 0

A chill ran down my spine. 0

Was this a warning? 0

Just then, my phone rang. It was Xiao Lin. 0

"Lao Wei, I found some information. Ji Dongsheng appears to be in the transportation business, but his biggest operation is the Vehicle Inspection Station. Sixty percent of the city's operational vehicles have to go for their annual inspections at his station." 0

"The inspection station?" I suddenly recalled Old Wang's words about how there would be strict checks on operational vehicles soon. 0

"Also," Xiao Lin continued, "he is related by marriage to the current Deputy Director of the Vehicle Administration. Last year, when the Vehicle Registration Office system was upgraded, it was his company that handled it." 0

I gasped in shock. 0

No wonder they dared to brazenly misuse the quotas. 0

"Master, what should we do now?" Xiao Li looked very worried. 0

I was about to respond when there was a knock at the front desk. " brother Wei, there's a taxi driver downstairs who wants to see you. He says it's about Jincheng Company." 0

"Let him come up." 0

A man in his fifties entered, introducing himself as Lao Zheng. 0

He rubbed his hands together, hesitating to speak. 0

"Master Zheng, feel free to say what's on your mind." 0

"It's like this," Lao Zheng glanced around nervously, "I heard you’re investigating Jincheng Company. I... I'm also a victim." 0

"What do you mean?" 0

"Last year, I found out that there was an extra car registered under my name without my knowledge. When I confronted the company about it, they gave me two hundred thousand to keep quiet." Lao Zheng sighed. 0

"But now there's a problem. Recently, that car was involved in an accident and fled the scene. The police came to my door, saying I'm the owner and I have to take responsibility." 0

I exchanged glances with Xiao Li. 0

This was much more serious than we had anticipated. 0

"Master Zheng, can you help us?" I offered him a cigarette. "I want to understand more about what’s going on." 0

"Well..." Lao Zheng hesitated. 0

"Don't worry, we will protect you," I handed him a business card. "This is my wife's; she’s a lawyer." 0

Lao Zheng took the card and pondered for a moment. "Actually, there’s one more thing. Their cars are equipped with special devices that can remotely control the meter..." 0

Before he could finish, his phone suddenly rang. 0

Looking at the incoming call, Lao Zheng's expression changed drastically. " manager Ji is looking for me..." 0

At that moment, my phone received a text message: "Mr. Wei, it seems you are not very satisfied with our suggestion. How about this: let's meet at the usual place tomorrow at three in the afternoon. I'll show you another side of things. Zhang Ming." 0

At three in the afternoon, I arrived once again at Jincheng Company. 0

This time, Zhang Ming took me to the underground parking garage. 0

"Mr. Wei, do you see that?" Zhang Ming pointed to the array of luxury cars in front of us. 0

"These are all assets of our company. Porsche, BMW, Benz—everything you can think of." 0

Dozens of brand-new luxury cars were neatly lined up, and just the value of these cars alone exceeded ten million. 0

I noticed that these cars all had regular license plates instead of taxi plates. 0

"Mr. Wei works at a 4S shop; you should understand what this means," Zhang Ming said with a smile. 0

"How could there be so much income from just the taxi business?" 0

I scoffed. "So this is your other side? Illegal operations?" 0

"This is called market demand," Zhang Ming replied as he pulled out a cigar. 0

"In cities with license plate restrictions, buying a car is difficult, but the demand from wealthy individuals is still there. We merely built a platform to satisfy both sides of supply and demand." 0

"By using someone else's license plate?" 0

"Mr. Wei, your words are quite harsh," Zhang Ming exhaled a puff of smoke. 0

"The compensation we offered is substantial. Besides, leaving these indicators unused is a waste." 0

"Then how do you explain the matter with Master Zheng?" 0

Zhang Ming's expression instantly turned cold. "It seems you know quite a bit. To be frank, there's talk in the circle that you're snooping around about us." 0

"Is that a problem?" 0

"I suggest you know when to stop," Zhang Ming fixed his gaze on me. 0

"Otherwise, you might find it hard to keep your job at the dealership. The tax authorities have been cracking down lately." 0

"Is that so?" I glanced around at the luxury cars. "I wonder if the tax authorities would be interested in these vehicles?" 0

"Are you threatening me, Mr. Wei?" 0

"I wouldn't dare," I waved my hand dismissively. "By the way, isn't the annual inspection for the A·7X5D2 about to expire?" 0

Zhang Ming's pupils constricted sharply. "What exactly do you want?" 0
