In the morning, I focused on organizing the data from user interviews.
In the office, my colleagues were immersed in their work, while I remained relaxed and carefree.
Upon returning to my desk, I keenly noticed that my workspace had been disturbed.
The folders were slightly misaligned, and the screen on my computer displayed a different interface than the one I had left it on.
Someone had been going through my things.
"Hmm?" I murmured to myself.
At that moment, Zhang Yuanliang's call came in.
"Li Siyue, where's the product requirement document? The investor is getting impatient!"
"I'm working on it," I replied casually, then hung up.
I made my way to the coffee shop downstairs, settled into a sofa, and opened my phone to mindlessly scroll through Douyin.
Messages and missed calls piled up, all of which I chose to ignore.
"Li Siyue! Submit the product requirement document immediately!" Zhang Yuanliang's message popped up right after.
I remained silent.
At three in the afternoon, Xiao Liu approached my workstation.
"Li Siyue, the Product Director said you need to hand over the research materials immediately."
"The research data isn't finished yet," I replied without looking up. "User insights take time."
"But the Product Director said..." Xiao Liu hesitated.
"Without complete user insights, the document is worthless," I said flatly.
Zhang Yuanliang didn't expect me to be so firm.
He had asked Xiao Liu to attempt writing the document, only to find it lacking core user insights.
The development team questioned every detail of the document.
In the conference room, Xiao Liu was unable to answer the development team's questions.
Sweat dripped down his forehead in embarrassment.
"How can this document lack even basic user needs?" the Technical Director frowned.
Zhang Yuanliang realized that only I had a complete grasp of the user requirements.
He tried to organize the requirements himself but found he couldn't persuade the development team.
"I'm sorry, but we may need to postpone," Zhang Yuanliang finally apologized to the development team.
As the workday drew to a close, I maintained a relaxed demeanor.
The phone rang; it was Wu Zhifeng.
"Hello?" I answered, a faint smile unconsciously curling at the corners of my mouth.
On the other end, Wu Zhifeng's furious voice rattled my eardrums.
"Li Siyue! The product requirement document must be completed tonight!"
His tone was nearly hysterical. "The Investor wants speed!"
I calmly replied, "Sorry, the new Product Director has taken over the project; this shouldn't be my responsibility."
"You!" Wu Zhifeng was momentarily speechless.
After hanging up, I gathered with friends at a restaurant.
At the table, I casually analyzed the company's product strategy issues.
"The company is currently making typical short-sighted decisions," I sipped my red wine.
"To gain the Investor's trust, they'll do anything ridiculous."
The next day, when I arrived at the office, the entire team looked like zombies.
Every team member wore a fatigued expression, clearly showing the signs of a sleepless night spent rushing to meet deadlines.
"Good thing I don't have to participate in the formation anymore," I said softly to a colleague beside me.
At that moment, Zhang Yuanliang strutted into the office, dressed head to toe in designer brands.
He looked smug, as if he had already conquered everything.
Wu Zhifeng then announced, "Zhang, our Product Director, has successfully secured a new round of investment! Li Siyue, you will continue to be responsible for the core functionality development!"
I couldn't help but scoff.
I knew all too well that this so-called "investment" was nothing more than a pile of unrealistic PowerPoint presentations and false promises.
"Wu Zhifeng wants you to supervise my work," Xiao Liu said as he approached me, looking somewhat uneasy.
"Oh? Supervise what?" I raised an eyebrow.
"The project progress," Xiao Liu stammered.
"How interesting," I replied with a knowing smile. "It's clearly no longer my project."
