At that time, I always thought of myself as brave and strong. However, when I calmed down and watched the scenes of the People's Liberation Army and armed police rescuing people on television, along with the active support from various sectors of society, I couldn't help but feel a pang in my heart. This led to my first dream: one day, I wanted to become one of them. Why do I call it my first dream? Because dreams can change with age or the times, much like climbing mountains; you must conquer one before you can tackle another. You need to accomplish each task well in order to realize your goals. 0

In early that year, which marked the anniversary of the founding of the nation, a grand military parade was held, coinciding with the start of winter enlistment. For the sake of my dream, I resolutely chose to enlist in the military despite what others said or their lack of understanding. Since I had a fondness for sports and was in good shape, I forged ahead through various challenges. Although there were minor setbacks along the way, everything went relatively smoothly. At the beginning of the month, I finally received the notification from the Armed Forces Department about my equipment distribution day. My heart raced with excitement, and my hands trembled as I hung up the phone, nearly dropping it on the ground. It was a thrill unlike any other, akin to being accepted into my dream university. 0

By mid-month, the cold wind howled, and the sky was overcast as if snow could fall at any moment. The day had finally arrived. As I prepared to leave, a mix of nervousness and anticipation quickened my heartbeat. 0

When I arrived at the Armed Forces Department, many young people like me were already gathered there, ready to embark on their journey. Everyone had different expressions—some were filled with excitement while others appeared slightly worried—but most were filled with hope and curiosity about the future. 0

Soon, personnel from the Armed Forces Department began calling out names and announcing each person's assigned unit. With every name called, it meant another soldier was about to head off to fulfill their sacred and challenging mission. 0

After roll call, we had a brief moment of rest. During this time, many people took photos with their relatives who had come to see them off, wanting to capture this precious moment before parting. However, I didn't call my friends over because I knew this farewell held greater significance for my family. So beside me stood only my closest family members—my parents and great-grandmother. 0

They surrounded me, constantly expressing their concern and care. My mother gently stroked my cheek, tears welling in her eyes as she reminded me to take care of myself; my father patted me on the shoulder and urged me to be brave and strong, not to let down the expectations of our country and its people. My great-grandmother also held my hand tightly, offering words of encouragement. 0

Amidst this warm familial love, time flew by quickly. Before I knew it, it was time to depart. I suppressed my reluctance as I hurriedly said goodbye to my family and turned to board the bus heading into an unknown journey. 0

As the bus slowly drove out of the Armed Forces Department's gates, I looked through the window at my family’s eyes filled with unspoken words and reluctance. They watched as the bus gradually moved further away until it finally disappeared from view. In that moment, my nose suddenly tinged with emotion; tears nearly spilled from my eyes. A thousand words surged in my heart, but for a moment, I didn’t know where to begin. 0

Watching the scenery retreat outside the window, I silently vowed: no matter what difficulties and challenges lay ahead, I would never back down! I would strive hard to establish myself and never bring shame upon my family or tarnish the reputation of those who raised me in my hometown! 0
