The reporting system encountered an issue, and the data refresh was extremely slow.
I turned to Lin Ran and found her hunched over her workstation, her shoulders shaking slightly.
"Are you okay, Ran?" I asked.
Lin Ran lifted her head and weakly replied, "I need to go to the bathroom to throw up."
I accompanied her to the restroom.
As we stood at the door, I hesitated for a moment.
Lin Ran stood behind me, her face pale. "Why aren’t you coming in?"
Taking a deep breath, I stepped into the restroom.
Lin Ran leaned over the sink, gagging, and I approached to gently pat her back.
Suddenly!
The hand dryer next to us roared to life!
I jumped in surprise!
Lin Ran squeezed my hand for comfort. "It’s okay."
We quietly moved closer to the sink.
Through the crack in the door, I saw that the outside was empty.
The sound of the hand dryer stopped.
Lin Ran washed her hands at the sink, and in the mirror, I caught a glimpse of her red high heels.
Suddenly, I recalled an urban legend.
They say that after midnight, if you see a woman in red high heels in front of a mirror...
"Yu Bo," Lin Ran called out to me, "can you get me a glass of water? I'm still feeling a bit unwell."
I supported Lin Ran as we left the office.
"Yu Bo, please take me home," she said, leaning against my shoulder. Her weak demeanor tugged at my heartstrings.
"Okay."
Lin Ran felt unwell, and she didn't want to stay at the office alone to work overtime.
Moreover, the reporting system was malfunctioning, and it was uncertain when it would be fixed.
It was better to wait until tomorrow.
"Yu Bo, please take me home, and then you can head back to rest early," she said.
Lin Ran leaned back in her chair, closing her eyes to rest.
"Okay."
I opened the navigation app and drove toward Lin Ran's home.
"Is there no one at your place?" I asked.
There was dust on the furniture in her house, suggesting it hadn't been cleaned in a long time.
Lin Ran smiled faintly. "My parents divorced a long time ago and each started a new family."
I was taken aback!
I had always thought Lin Ran came from a well-off family, but I never imagined she was also someone who had faced hardships.
"It's fine; I can take care of myself," she reassured me.
"I'll message you when I get home," I replied.
I nodded, feeling a pang of sadness in my heart.
When we arrived at Lin Ran's building, I sat in the car for a while before getting out.
After hesitating whether to walk her upstairs, I ultimately decided against it, noticing she didn't seem well and needed to rest.
Once I got home, exhaustion hit me hard, and I went straight to bed.
I saved the data, planning to finish it the next day.
Early the next morning, my boss tagged me in the group chat: "Yu Bo, have you finished the report I asked you to do yesterday?"
What? I wasn't even fully awake yet!
"Boss, the reporting system had issues last night, so I'm redoing it this morning."
"Make it quick! I need it by noon today!"
After setting my alarm for 7 o'clock, I fell into a peaceful sleep.
But I had a nightmare!
In my dream, I found myself back in the Boss's Office, boiling water.
Suddenly, the boss stood up from his chair.
He slowly walked towards me.
"Boss..."
I was so scared that I couldn't even move!
He looked at me with a blank expression. "What's wrong? Are you so excited to see me?"
The boss grabbed my wrist and locked me in the office!
"Boss! Boss! Let me go! Let me go!"
I screamed for help, but he remained unfazed.
He advanced step by step, and I was so frightened that I kept retreating.
Until I found myself backed against the wall, with nowhere to escape!
The boss pinned my hands above my head.
My legs were trapped beneath his weight, unable to move.
