As soon as I stepped out of the bank, I was stopped by the police.
"Are you Ms. Zhou Ya?" one of the officers asked.
I nodded, "Yes."
The officer's expression was impassive as he said, "Please come with us to the police station."
I knew exactly what this was about; my mother-in-law must have reported me for stealing family assets.
Sure enough, as soon as I entered the police station, I saw my mother-in-law and my father-in-law.
With a sarcastic tone, my mother-in-law said, "Officer, she has taken our family's property."
Feigning surprise, I replied, "Officer, why don't you go after the bank robbers instead?"
"If it's not in her name, how could she steal it?" the officer pointed out.
He nodded in agreement, "Indeed, it wasn't theft."
My mother-in-law grew anxious, "Then what about her occupying our family's property?"
The officer frowned, "That should be a family matter."
"You should go home and resolve it among yourselves," he advised.
My mother-in-law stomped her foot in frustration, "Officer, you must take our side!"
I smiled slightly and added, "Officer, since we're here, why not take a look at how many charges my father-in-law has against him?"
My mother-in-law began to roll on the floor in anger.
My father-in-law sat in a chair, angrily berating the officers for their inaction.
With a cold smile, I pulled out a photo from my phone.
"Officer, my father-in-law has a mistress outside and has even gotten married."
"This is the evidence."
My father-in-law's expression changed instantly: "You filthy liar!"
I smiled again and said, "Officer, my father-in-law just admitted to having a mistress."
He immediately fell silent.
The police officer nodded, "In that case, let's keep him here for now."
My father-in-law was taken aback, "What do you mean?"
The officer replied sternly, "You are guilty of bigamy!"
My father-in-law's expression changed, "I am not!"
The officer pointed at me, "She has evidence."
My father-in-law's face turned red with anger.
I smirked at him from the corner, provoking him further.
My mother-in-law was still rolling on the floor.
I walked over and leaned close to her ear, "Mom, Dad has a woman outside and they are legally married."
"This is the evidence."
My mother-in-law paused for a moment.
Her body went limp and she collapsed onto the ground.
I deliberately did not help her.
Her head hit the floor with a loud thud.
The police officer reprimanded her seriously, "Ma'am, stop lying on the ground and rolling around."
"Your daughter-in-law should respect you, but you can't just throw all your dirt on her."
"Your daughter-in-law is a good girl from a respectable family, not your servant!"
My mother-in-law lay in the police station for quite some time before she recovered.
I pretended to be scared, "Officer, my mom has fainted."
"Should I call my husband to take her to the hospital?"
The officer nodded, "That works."
Ma Zhaoqiang soon arrived at the hospital.
“Zhou Ya, how could you take care of my mother like this?”
The police officer sternly reprimanded him, “How can you blame your wife?”
Ma Zhaoqiang's expression changed, and he fell silent.
I smiled slightly and said, “Honey, Father-in-law has committed bigamy.”
Ma Zhaoqiang's face turned pale. “How is that possible?”
Feigning innocence, I replied, “I just found out too.”
Ma Zhaoqiang was furious. “That old fool!”
I acted surprised. “Honey, who are you talking about?”
Ma Zhaoqiang's face stiffened, and he stammered, unable to respond.
My mother-in-law lay on the bed, her mouth moving as if she were trying to speak.
I leaned in closer to listen and realized she was saying, “Ah, ah, ah…”
I smiled gently. “Mom, the doctor said you’re dehydrated.”
“You must be thirsty now, feeling dizzy and weak all over.”
My mother-in-law widened her eyes and called out to me with an “ah ah.”
I took a water jug and cup from the cabinet.
Her eyes filled with anticipation.
But I deliberately poured the water into the trash can.
The light in her eyes gradually dimmed.
