With that, he turned and left the hospital room.
I glanced at my mother-in-law lying on the bed: "Mom, just focus on your recovery."
She seemed to understand my words and reached out to grab my wrist.
I forcefully pulled away and coldly looked at her: "Mom, from now on, you’re on your own."
My mother-in-law's eyes widened as her mouth opened and closed as if trying to scold me.
I smiled slightly: "Mom, I wish you a speedy recovery."
Before leaving, I took away the water and food from my mother-in-law's bedside. I also grabbed her medications and unplugged the nurse call button. Turning away from the hospital bed, I felt a sense of liberation. No one was ordering me around, no one was calling me a nagging wife, and no one was asking me to serve my in-laws or Sister-in-law.
I propped my legs up, snacked on treats, sipped juice, and watched television. The feeling of freedom was truly delightful!
Suddenly, the doorbell rang. I glanced at the calendar on the wall. Today was the day Sister-in-law returned from her trip. A smile crept onto my face as I got up and walked to the entrance.
When I opened the door, there she was—Sister-in-law—standing at the threshold with a suitcase at her feet. Dressed in fashionable clothes and shoes, she shot me a glance that changed her expression. "Sister-in-law, what kind of look is that?" she asked.
I smiled gently. "Xiao Qi, welcome home."
Sister-in-law gave me a complicated look before dragging her suitcase inside. I couldn't help but chuckle to myself as I watched her retreating figure. Xiao Qi, are you here to stir up trouble again? Ever since our confrontation, she hadn't dared to boss me around anymore.
She even spoke to me cautiously.
She must be afraid that I might go crazy!
After putting down her suitcase, Xiao Qi rushed in front of me.
She handed me a few bags of snacks and clothes, saying, "Sister-in-law, these are the local specialties I brought for you."
I glanced at the logo on the packaging.
They were all cheap trinkets worth only a few dozen yuan.
I smiled slightly, "Thank you."
Xiao Qi awkwardly chuckled, "Sister-in-law, where have you been?"
I feigned surprise, "What’s wrong?"
With a slight smile, I replied, "I went to the hospital to visit Mom."
Xiao Qi's expression changed, "What happened to my mom?"
I pretended to be shocked, "You don’t know?"
Xiao Qi shook her head, "No."
I shot her a glance, "Mom has Alzheimer's Disease and is currently hospitalized."
Xiao Qi's face paled, "How could that be?"
I acted surprised again, "You didn’t know?"
Her face turned ghostly white, "I didn’t know..."
I continued, "Dad committed bigamy and is now in detention."
Xiao Qi nearly fainted, "How could that be?"
I feigned surprise once more, "You didn’t know?"
Her face was ashen, "I didn’t know..."
I went on, "Your husband was fired from his job and now owes a mountain of debt."
